I have a load of spare plastic rhinos and landspeeders. I have converted some of the landspeeders to use the assault cannon instead of the melta and these look good. So now I am turning my attention to making some whirlwinds and typhoons. Anyone else tried this or has any thoughts on how to scratchbuild a suitable missile pod? |

Build a simple box out of 1mm plasticard, then use either the smallest punch on a leather punch, or a 1/16" hole punch from a craft store, to punch .5mm card for the ends of missile tubes. |

I suggest a slightly different option if you 're going to build multiples rocket pods (since we're talking 6mm you're usually putting lots of rocket pods on lots of vehicles. First, decide what a cross section of your pod will look like and cut out lots of little slices from a piece of plasticard. Glue them together in a sandwich with CA glue. (Don't fret if they don't align perfectly) let sit a day, then use files and sand paper to knock down the too large edges and give the shape a clean look. Add on additional details by glueing on more plasticard for details and using a scribe tool to make cuts in the smooth surface. To add the launch tubes, use a pin vise and drill bit to drill out your tube holes You now have your prototype by this point. Get some Smooth-on mold max 30 or 40 and make a two part mold around the prototype. Cast multiple pods using this new mold with something like dental plaster (actually a thermoplastic) or something like resin or eurethane plastic. |

Thats a really good idea, Ifuria. You dont have links to specific products you use, do you? I hate trying to figure things out from other people's descriptions, especially when I have zero experience at something. Give me the exact things to order and I'll try it

Sure, I use smooth-on products. Here are links. http://www.smooth-on.com/Silicone-Rubbe ... catdepth=1 Look for moldmax 30 trial size. That's plenty to make molds with to start For the resin, I use urethane plastic. http://www.smooth-on.com/Urethane-Plast ... catdepth=1 again, trial size smoothcast 300 trial. or 305 trial none of the super fast set stuff, that stuff sets WAY too fast. You'd need legos to build your mold frame non drying plastic sculpting clay. (not silicone) a .1 gram accurate scale (perferably a scientific scale with a zeroing function) some paper cups some popsicle sticks to stir with green stuff for making your prototype. |
