I suppose you could scrape the paint off an then dump it in water. I would find the extra dollar or two spent on the latex/rubber cement would be well worth it when compared to the extra time and effort.
True enough, it's not as if I'm not spending dollars on ArmyPainter pigmented sprays, etc. anyway.
I suppose part of the other attraction for me for PVA glue masking is that it is fairly 'kid-friendly,' meaning that I can involve my 3-year old in some portions of the painting process, rather than having to create an 'exclusion zone.'
You're right about the issue of solubility, it'll be one of the interesting things to text out: just how impermeable is the layer of acrylic. It's a good reminder to test on a second-class mini.
