As for the variant I was play-designing, should I actually buckle down and complete it? Or are you working on a similar design, Otterman?

I say go for it.

Mmm, could be. I'll poke through my mighty box of sprues and see if I can find it.

Boom turret.

What to put in empty space on top? Big spotlight or stack o' smoke launchers?

Could you move the star to the empty space and then just detail the hatch cover as normal?

Spectrar Ghost is right about the spotlight. It indeed origins from this sprue.

What about rivets or spikes in the empty spot? It chaos after all ;)

See, that's the problem with this variant of turret - it is too clean and streamlined to be Non-Ordered. If you load that blank area with spikes or rivets, then that one spot will look out of place with the rest of the model.

Jeez, I should really dig through my SM box and see what the current SG Predators look like. I suspect we're after something that looks sufficiently different that a non-ordered player can be happy, yet and ordered player could do a little bit of filing and have his own variant.

I probably came off a bit short in my last post, but I was in a rush. My specific problem is that I don't like the angular turret for Non Ordered usage because I am old school and think the Non Ordered vehicles should be boxier and not as advanced looking. I also don't like the turret on the 40k version, because, like all the current chaos vehicles, it looks like a standard version with a couple of spikes and a dirty paint job. Personal preference I guess.

I do agree with you though, in that turrets both armies can use is the way to go.

EDIT: That all being said, I do like the angular turret for Ordered forces, and would be more than happy to get some for that purpose.

Well IMO, don't make a "doppelganger" of the model(s) that already exist ... go a different direction ... a little ""Chaosy" but not too much !! :o Don't go over the top the way some do ... ;D

I was looking at the turret again, and I am thinking the current amount of Non-Ordered decor is ok. I'm assuming that it will be based off some variant of the Non-Ordered Nashorn, which has plenty of decoration.

As for Otterman's earlier question of filling the blank spot, I was thinking a spotlight would probably work better. The reasoning behind that is if the modeler doesn't like the spot, they can clip it off and add a scratchbuilt smoke-launcher or something. On the other hand, would it be possible to put some sort of pintle-mounted bolter or weapon up there? Or would that be too fiddly?

I'd go for the non-ordered style spotlight as pictured. Storm bolters, spikes or symbols could be converted on there, but we don't have one of them. Personally would prefer the non-ordered ones 2 keep the same underlying shape as the ordered ones, but that's just personal preference.

I must admit to some fondness for the weirdness of this old-timey predator turret.

Edit - No skulls though. I don't do people skulls. Robot or animal skulls are OK.

An upgrade sprue with lots of spikes would be cool. So each un-ordered vehicle could lool unique.
