I'm not sure that it actually register as gold in my brain, though, but still the effect is very nice looking.

I'm not very sure how NMM should be applied on large flat surface, that's probably one of the hardest settings for such an effect.

The really interesting part however is that this doesn't prevent your crons from being gorgeous. As bans was saying, these are a nice change from metal and green.

Thanks for your comments, they're really motivating me :)

@Athmospheric: yes, I think human brains do not register my painting job as "gold". It's normal as the NMM need to be perfect (or really close) to create illusion and I need to improve my painting skills if I want this effect to work.

This has always been my main problem with NMM. It just doesn't make sense to me to use a 2d painting technique on a 3d object. Unless of course the goal is to photograph the miniature from that one particular angle where the NMM illusion works. That said NMM can look really nice and gives an unusual or even otherworldly look to the model, which I think works really well for your Necrons.

Now, I think this second spider (the sight is not as clear on the top one), that NMM is splendid and really works quite nicely.

I really think it would be much more difficult to apply on the obelisk (or monolith) as successfully, as theses effects are much harder to apply on flat surfaces, since in real life, a flat plane metallic surface is either uniform or reflects its environment, and this is entirely dependent on the angle of the light.

On the other hand, the effect on rounded surface is less dependent on the angle and context. The most important is that the effect still look quite good on the obelisk. Would you show us a sort of group shot ?

I'm curious to see if my brain still see the spider as gold once they are beside the obelisk. I suspect it would still look quite great.

Those tomb spiders are really brilliant !
Actually, I think this is the first time I see NMM on Epic minis (except maybe on some titans). Well done !

As an aside, I am quite convinced by those tufts you use and the shorter static grass. I'm currently ordering some :) I will have to experiment quite a bit to find satisfying ground covers for forest and other settings.

Your work is definitely very inspiring :)

Yes, NMM works better on the spyders but I added more white in my paint when reaching clearer gold. And it works :)

Wow, very nice work! I think the nmm gold works great and makes them look more like they come from the desert than silver.
