so for the god-knows-how-many-th time, the cap on my zap a gap has come loose enough to dry out the whole damn bottle without me knowing it. My question is, are the little tubes of superglue worth anything for what we do or should I just stick to buying the small zap a gap green bottles that I only use 1/4 of before they find themselves in the trash?

Gorilla glue claims to have an impact resistant super glue (in addition to a crapload more types of glue). You should be able to find the little tubes in a Home Depot. From my limited usage, GG seems OK.

I'd recommend against buying "no-name" mini-tube multipacks of super glue- they can make a mess and are of inconsistent quality (squeeze the tube-->bottom of tube dumps glue over your hand etc).

Thanks for the Tip O-Man in my area the Home Depot to Hobby shop ratio is something like 8-1!

Yeah, I have had those tubes go wonky more than once, I just hate the thought of wasting over half of a $5 bottle of zap-a-gap every couple of months!

i use cheap multipack superglue for scenery and basing
i use a more expensive but not zap-a-gap level superglue tubes (3ml 'selleys quick-fix' if that helps any) for my normal everyday glueing
and for very fiddly/important bonds, i use a bottle of zap-a-gap that has lasted me two/three years at this point

Do you put the stuff in the fridge when you're not using it? My good superglue (usually Selleys) generally lasts a good year in a humid climate before becoming too sludgy to use as glue anymore (though makes an ok filler at that stage).

For basing, I've been finding that elmer's white glue works fairly well, especially on wooden bases.
And water-soluble glues have everything to recommend them in terms of clean up and application.

I think Zap-a-gap is fairly economical per ounce, but that economy dries up badly if the tube goes bad.

I've been using the cheap-o superglue tubes - almost to the point of not expecting one to last longer then a session.

the small precison stuff would be nice, but it always seems to go solid on me (much like the cheap-o's but at a greater cost)

You need to be religious about cleaning the cap/nozzle of Zap CA glues. The other option is to be as sloppy as you want and cap the CA with a gob of Blu-Tac. I have a tube of Zap CA+ that I cracked the top on and it has been fine with a Blu-Tac cap for over a year.

Always store CA in the fridge if you get lots of heat/humidity in your hobby area. I keep mine in a "No Touch" box in the garage fridge along with Magic Sculp, GS, & random virology crap.

Just out of curiosity, what do you use CA for mostly?

I've been using Gorilla superglue for a while - works well, the top hasn't crusted shut or the glue dried up and it's been opened for about 18mths now. Pricier than other brands per bottle, cheaper when you actually get to use all of it

I use CA for anythign to Metal, anything to resin and sometimes (not very often though) plastic. I use liquid cement I brush on and laquer thinner for plastic-> plastic,

Random Virology crap? That would be on the list of thing's I wouldn't want in my fridge, but OK... I don't tend to have issues with my own Zap a Gap, and it is the best.
