Anyway, it's not much more than a placeholder, but here's a pic of some WIP gunwagons, thanks to Mageboltrat's kick-arse Death Guard rhinos. They've (the gunwagons) already been too much work and bother for what they are, and I've more to do - rivets, panel lines, etc. The only fiddly details I don't mind yet are the glyph plates. I need more of those.

Like the middle one best; it has a very cartoony feel that I love in an Ork tank. Kinda reminds me of the new FW Grot Tanks. I would never even consider glyphs at 6mm, unless I wanted the glyph for 'frakkin mess'. Awesome!

If I can offer a suggestion, I think they would look better on slightly larger bases.

Malakai: normally I would too, but I enjoyed the rocky, bouncy, Dukes-of-Hazzard character of Ratty's rhinos, perched on small bases. It'd suit orks well, IMO. Though I think being raised up on a layer of putty (and the extra height of the looted rhino) add to the too-small effect.
Besides, EM4 don't do 25mm single-colour counters, and the little wagons look lost on the 31mms. I've started thinking about cutting round bases from black plasticard, but the extra effort and potential for mucking up puts me off. In any case the wagons are okay on the rickety 22s, IMO.

For my marines I'm using and sticking the current rhino-chassis vehicles on 31mm counters (the type the deff rolla is on). They're larger than the old placcy rhinos so they fit better, but they still have more space than the wagons do, for a slightly more sensible character.

A treatise on the use of differently-sized bases for Epic vehicles. Anyone think I have too much time on my hands?

LOL, no way man. I love basing my vehicles in Epic and talking about basing vehicles in Epic and everything that goes with it. Agreed Ratty's stuff looks cool, but then again he's Ratty. I don't think I've ever seen a bad model painted from that guy! God I loathe him. >:D

Nah, I think I like the Chimaera turret better.

The chimera turret looks more natural, but the russ turret looks more orky. They do love their ridiculously sized cannons.
