Grey's Scouts was a mounted infantry unit used in the Rhodesian War in the late 70's ... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

those seemed to work out pretty well for you. I just can't accept horse soldiers in 40k though. it's just feels... wrong. |

Well ... I think of them as Mounted Infantry in function as the Grey's Scouts were. And in the SM1 rules, they could dismount and fight as Infantry ... And we played it that way. And the Grey's were fairly effective in Rhodesia from 1975 -1980. (Eventhough the Rhodesians ultimately lost!) ... Plus the Aussie 4th Light Horse in WWI functioned in the Middle East, in the same way(even if they did make an actual Cavalry charge at Beersheba in 1917 !). Even today in the 'stan, SF units use local horses for transport. And it helps them blend in with the locals. So I agree Horse Cav is an anachronism, but in a big Galaxy, some planets still may use horsemen ? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Great looking cavalry L4! ![]() I can buy into the idea of mounted infantry in 40K. Figure in cybernetic gizmos & you could have a pretty fancy "horse". Something that gets you, some arty, & supplies from point A to B without needing constant maintenance & fuel could go a long way on certain worlds. I wouldn't want them for built up city fighting, but cavalry does have it's applications. |

Thanks "G" ... Yes, as I said, if they are deployed as "Light Horse", ie. mounted infantry ... they have some uses. Use them as traditional CAV, could get you in trouble !! ![]() |
