Hi guys,

I'm back after a difficult hiatus. Our gaming group recently decided to run a 40k camapign and we decided on Badab and tho and behold the guys at BoLS released a Badab codex just for us.

So we all took a chapter and for me it was the Mantis Warriors who I had already painted up a squad of termies for Space Hulk.

Then along came Warseer's 'Tale of..' painting log and before I knew I had signed up for 3k epic marines and 2k 40k marines. The basic plan is to paint 1/10 of your points each month for a year and this allows 2 jokers in case real life gets in the way. Well real life did and my epic painting suffered so I decided to bulk up for November and get a good start on my epic log.

Without further ado I present the first of my Epic models - 2 formations of termies just to bulk up the points.

My Warseer log is here

The rest will be coming in time. Enjoy. C&C encouraged.here

Thanks Frogbear. In what way are they different?

The termies are supposed to be identical to their big brothers:

My heavy flamer, as you may have noticed, is a Deathwatch veteran. He achieved this honour by being the only marine who completed Mission 1 of Space Hulk on our first night of gaming when it was released. Nice award, I think.

Ordered a battle company and some speeders and have lots of armour waiting to get painted.

The idea behind the army (40k and Epic) was to find a nice quick colour scheme that was easy to achieve and looked reasonable on the table.

1 coat of foundation knarloc green and 2 washes of thraka green wash and detail. Done.

A nice green with yellow. It is a nice combination and I have not seen it used on Marines for Epic as yet.

Then again, maybe I am still a newbie.

Thought the Mantis Warriors always had a nice colour scheme right back to Rogue Trader days. I was always intrigued by their background, recently turned renegade due to a misunderstanding and now on a penitence crusade to gain their honour back. There was also a mention of their veterans of the Tranquility War who were organised into sniper squads and had yellow and tiger stripe camo. Hence my termie sarge.

This has been expanded upon and now their homeworld is Tranquility and they lost it to the Space Sharks in the Badab Wars conflict.

This is a very cool idea. I have always loved the Badab campaign because of all the weird and wonderful camo schemes that you just don't get to see on Marines. At some point, I want to do a 40K sort of crusade army with one squad from different chapters to show all the schemes...

Sorry, back on track. Your terminators look just awesome, both sizes. You've really pulled off the scheme will at the smaller scale and they do look just like their big brothers.

Looking forward to seeing more of the army as it develops.

Cheers,

Nice armies, but it does remind me that I signed up for the same challenge to a 'nid army and I've done exactly 0% of it

Well, I was planning to use my Hordes Seraph as a Vituperator, and I've got that painted so make that 10%!

Well if you don't mind them being a bit cartoony you could use shredders as scythed hierodule, Harriers would make good Harridans.

I'm also going to use either Typhon or a raek as a hydraphant, originally I thought about using a carnivean but he is just a bit too big! Typhon looks smaller than the carnivean as it doesn't stand so tall but until I own a raek I won't be able to judge its size.

Of course just having this conversation ensures that GW will never make the 'nid rules official

Were they ever going to, really?

Was thinking maybe the teraph could be used as a hierophant or hydraphant?

Not for me I have got some 40k warriors for hieor and am thinking either the new tyrant (if in plastic) or a carnifex for a hydraphant. yeah I know they are big but I think it will look cool and really sh!t scary - 6mm marines encounter a 28mm monstrous creature - I'll be looking for the power armour poop hatch!

Back on topic. Think I have some bikes to add next and am thinking of converting my scouts into sniper scouts as befits the background of the mantis warriors.

Would fit too, but form all accounts its a bit lame in Hordes right now. Guess I wait a week and see what happens in MkII before I decide what model will get dual use
