Hey there, haven't been on the boards for a long while but I'm really feeling like doing some painting and I think I'll will work on some Chaos Marines. Now it's been so long and my brain is old and mushy so I would like some help on army composition, I can't remember what worked and what didn't.

I would like to use the Black Legion list, and I want no units which are of any of the Gods but Nurgle, however normal marines are fine as these will be Nurgle Worshippers but not as far gone as the Plague Marines. Obliterators are funky as I can make so kind of Giant Modified Rodent Weapon Beast with Puscannons and all kind of other things, and I also have some defilers in the works so that also isn't a problem.

I've already got a Tournament Traitor Guard Army so I would like to use the 2 Ferals I already have made and painted and I could possibly use the 3 Decimators and 2 Swiftdeaths, I also have 3 Death Wheels I really fancy painting. With this in mind what would you put into a 3k army.

It's been a couple of years since I've played, as it's hard to get opponents here. I'm planning to go to the tournament in march, but I've got no idea what makes up a decent army any more. That means I have about 6 weeks to put together an army, paint whatever I'm missing and playtest it. I would like to have a good idea what I need to get so I can get started immediately, having to relearn the rules is not going to give me much time on the actual playtesting, so there is no room to test out an army and change it if it doesn't work.

Great to see you back Ratty! I can't speak much having not played CSM's but EdgarSan (who has perfected playing an infantry horde based army) might be able to give a few pointers: give him a PM maybe?

I'd reccommend not bothering with demon's though: points can be better spent elsewhere in the BL list...likewise with the swiftdeaths. That's from a purely competitive based opinion though.

I'm OK to start working on some Terminators & the Death Wheels aren't I? I need to get this started. I've already put together 2 stands of Terminators and I'm just about to start work on the Death Wheels.

Ratty:  I'm guessing you're planning to use the daemons on the garrison retinue as meat shields.  If so, it might be a better option to take Havocs instead of Plague Marines and use that formation for fire support and area denial.  Being on foot, you're going to have a hard time getting into assault to use all that Plague Marine and demon goodness.  Making the formation shooty will make it easier to use.

Another option would be to put the pact on the rhino retinue to use offensively.  Truck to where you need to be, then summon daemons to assault.  If you need to be mobile, the daemons disappear in the end phase so they don't slow down the mechanized formation.

And welcome back.

I would keep the fighters.  They are an activation and overall more flexible than adding ground flak.  They can intercept and they can hit targets on the ground that your other formations may not be able to reach.

Oh, one other thing, if you're playing with the NetEA list recommendations (and possibly with the Epic UK rules - I'm not wure where they are headed), the Death Wheels and Decimators will come out of the 1/3 war engines and air point restrictions.  That will put you substantially over.

OK, so I've got a good collection of the old and new plastic chaos marines, anyone got any funky ideas how to separate the Forlorn Hope and the Plague Marines from the normal ones. I was considering converting up the Khorne Bezerkers into close combat nurgle marines and have them hurding forward giant rats for the forlorn hope.

I'm probably modelling my Forlorn Hope (always hated that name!) as Possessed as one of their random mutation abilities in W40k can let them scout I believe as does a mention in their background (though mine will be heavily converted and brightly painted rather than realistic scouts). Herded giant rats sounds pretty cool though :agree: Plague zombies, or chaos spawn in the shape of giant mutated flies and/or slugs could be other Nurglish possibilities maybe.

Been working on the Forlorn Hope, they are looking quite nice. I am going to try and get the light box and SLR set up tonight, mainly as I said to the Warmaster I was going to try and get some Iyanden pics for him, though I'll get some work in progress pictures of my Death Wheels, Terminators and Forlorn Hope also.
