Thought I'd put up some test paint schemes for my Iron Warriors and Necrons, both in progress. I'm waiting on delivery for many of the items I'll be putting into each army, so posting progress may be slow. First up: couple of Iron Warriors vehicles: ![]() |

Mate, A good looking test paint. You might want to look at so e matt ink for the gold areas just to make them a little darker. I have an IW army painted by Onyx. Take a look at his work it is truely enspiring stuff. Anyway welcome to the Legion my friend, always good to see another who is Iron Within. Cheers Aaron |

Thanks, guys. I was considering inking the gold; I'll try it out... I should have the rest of these done by the end of the coming weekend, and my infantry should be showing up in a day or two as well, so I'll have a bit more to post in a few. |

Got a bit more work done over the weekend: finished the Nashorns and Crabbes, a Zombie Robot War Machine, three pyramids, four angry robot bugs, a big, mean night-dude, and six more stands of wraith conversions. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Close ups and a guide on the destroyers and wraiths please? |

Quote: (Fortis @ Feb. 02 2010, 02:28 ) Close ups and a guide on the destroyers and wraiths please? ![]() Pretty simple models, really. I used .032" guitar string (decided on a little thinner than the original idea), cut in 25-30mm strips. Bend the string around a round object (such as a hobby knife handle) until you have a crescent. Glue to base. The torsos are from Dark Realm Andrayada Bodyguard models (they come in the Vanguard pack, but only 4 are in each pack. Contact DRM if you'd like to buy them separately). I clipped the legs diagonally through the torso, starting just under the square gubbin at the base of the model's spine; trim the spike off that sticks up from the model's back. Then trim the front of the torso to better fit the guitar string, and glue. ![]() These I made from the instructions in the Epic Raiders supplement. Start with 40K Necron Scarabs (the plastic ones, not the old metal ones). Clip the head off the scarab, making it flush across the front; trim the little gubbins off the exhaust ports. Then take whichever model you use for the torso (I used the Vanguard models for destroyers, and the Vulturs for heavy destroyers, though now I believe that the Andrayada Heavy infantry torso would be a better approximation for the heavy), and clip off at the waist. Trim to fit and glue to the scarab. Both conversions take just a few minutes each. All of the wraiths were completed in  total time of about an hour (getting the guitar string glued to the base without using an accelerant will take a bit of physical support), and the destroyers about the same. |

Great customer service from DRM supplying the components ![]() Nice to see a scythe wraith painted as well ![]() |

Hi Kajo, top stuff! Does the guitar string keep its shape once bent, or do you have to douse it in glue or stuff to make it stiff? |

Quote: (mr.ninja @ Feb. 02 2010, 18:43 ) Does the guitar string keep its shape once bent, or do you have to douse it in glue or stuff to make it stiff? It will hold its shape, and is a bit springy - it will take bumps and falls without disfigurement. I should mention the reason for bending the string around a rounded implement - if you bend an angle into the string (as opposed to an arc), you'll not be able to fix it and will need to discard that particular bit of string. Once you've completed a couple of them, it should be easy for you to see how to do it properly. Edit: make sure you buy a steel guitar string (acoustic or electric - it doesn't matter, since both have a wrapped steel core), not a nylon (classical/folk; wrapped nylon core) guitar string. Catgut is right out (and damned expensive to boot). ![]() |
