Seeing that E&C is kicking off round two of the Skittari list testing, has anyone ever considered sculpting any large, glowey, building sized tanks? |

I've been sketching around, trying to create something, but I've yet to figure out how to turn the 2d doodles into 3d resin or metal. |

I've always wanted to do the Charybdis design that I saw on Deviant Art. The artists handle is "Malaveldt". |

O-man, I like the look of that. The current designs just make me nauseous. I realize they are a decades old design, but between them and the Squat stuff... Anyway, just checking... |

In function the Ordinatus bears much resembelance to these things often found in catholic churchs. I'm not sure of the english name, but the "Monstrans" is this elaborate thing were you place the communion and carry it through the church in a procession (Well not always since some of these things are ridiculously big!). The communion bread goes in the small circle in the middle of the contraption. Basically it captures what an Ordinatus is in my book: An elaborate vehicle for some ancient holy weaponry. I was thinking some weird fusion of this with some industrial bits and some armored tank bits would be interesting. Obviously it won't look like this, and certainly not be this tall, but the principle could be incorporated into a more sensible vehicle design. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The 3D version looks pretty sweet. The only thing I wouldn't mind seeing changed is the radar antennae. It's tilted back like it has to look up to find anything. Seems like it might be easier to, um, model, if it looked more like the phased array radars that you find on the front of an Aegis cruiser or...that radar that supports the Russian S-300. Let me see if I can find a pict. |

I'd like to see something with a bit more clout personaly than those dinky pea shooters my understanding of an ordinatus was that the weapon is more the focus rather than the carriage. |

The Monstrans/Apocolocyntosis' picture fits more for an Leviathan or Capitol Imperialis. The Adeptus Mechanicus is much more industrial looking. Less Gothic. |

Quote: (Apocolocyntosis @ Jan. 04 2010, 20:55 ) This thread reminded me of this old pic: Hehe. Awsome ![]() Well Less gothic for sure, but imagine the stone architecture replaced with steel girders for the industrial look. You have a reactor like thing replacing the apsis with the main weapon protruding at one end. Then the steel girders replacing the flying buttresses as some kind of supporting framework or scaffolding. The idea is that it will have the rough appearance of something semi-gothic, but made from industrial looking materials. High-gothic cathedrals are often refered to as having their supporting structures located on the outside of the building, as opposed say a modern skyscraper where you cover the framework of the building with a material like glass to conceal the structure. This is what I think would be interesting to capture. Don't think a heavy boxy gothic building like the ForgeWorld Cathedral (Or a Leviathan or CI), but rather the spindly architecture of the high gothic which in my mind bears certain resembelances to the industrial architecture of the 19th and early 20th century. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Apologies for the attractive woman: please ignore...well if you want to ![]() Just try and focus on the basic overall shape, ignore all the litle gothic details, but try and replace that texture with girder framework, tubes, wires steel beams and rivets. PS, sorry about the image heavy posts. Just trying to convey the basic idea here. |
