The Exodus Wars Khazari look great :agree: but wondering what else people use?

Also, has anyone tried converting a Colossus into a Cyclops? Madness? Sacrilege?

Well since I painted up the studio army my opinion is probably a bit biased. However I think the EW models make very nice Squat proxies. The weapons look a little different than the old plastics but overall they're very nice. I particularly like the many little special details such as sunglasses, hairstyles, etc. that really gives these guys a personalty. They're definitely easier to get hold of than the old plastics.

The basic infantry has something like 4 different types, some with ranged weapons some with a CC weapon and shield. I'd probably split them up into different unit types. Then there's the Engineers which are available as components: Snap off the kinetic barrier and they're perfect IMO. You could also mix them with the 6mm viking infantry Reaver sculpted.

As for the Cyclpos: Chopping up a colossus is certainly an option. Alternatively though: How about something based on a FW superheavy? Mount a big tube on one side and build some kind of superstructure on the other.

They are nice indeed, I will probably get a clan of the little Doozers  :agree:

As for the Cyclops: I do have an old Stormhammer lying about somewhere, maybe the Colossus gets a reprieve

Also, I'm thinking of building a land train and some mega-cannons from scratch, shouldn't be too hard given the actual models are a bit, ahem, basic

Land trains could be done using some kind of small tank hull for the cars and a larger tank for the engine. The EW Guild MBT hull is fairly blocky and easy to build on, but a bit large (But of course there's nothing wrong with having a large land train - the original is rather underscaled anyway). Maybe one of the smaller DRM tanks would work nicely. Also EW sells most of their tank turrets as components, so it would be possible to get some nifty bits for the individual battlecars that way.

Yes my land train will certainly be larger.

What about turretless MBTs as squat transports? (less head room required!)

Actually there's an APC turret coming up that is exactly that: Just a small plate to cover the turet hole, and a pintle mounted gun. I'll whip up a shot of the resin prototypes tomorrow as I haven't got the production model at hand right now.

I hate land trains as a concept. They have a pretty terrible model also heh.

I did too till I read some fluff describing them as re-purposed mining vehicles. (then they sort of make sense :oo: )

I think for thurgrimms, the proposed "preholocaust" list, it makes sense, but for the Demiurg list that is proposed to be the "post holocaust" like...I just dont like it. I feel the only reason its included in that list is because there's a model for it. Makes no sense as a combat vehicle for a largely mobile drifter army.

I agree.  Of course, the big guns make no sense for them either.

Have you thought about making it as an actual train, on rails and everything? Who's to say there isn't a railway running through your battlefield?

I always fancied the idea of a 40K Ork army with diesel and steam engines as trukks and battlewagons, except with tires instead of rail wheels.  Could definitely be achieved in Epic I reckon! N gauge locos are probably perfect.

Here is the conversion gurdil35 did on Epic_fr for his land train.

Mainly bases on DRM miniatures and plastic from this box:

That is a very cool land train :agree: which vehicle hulls is it? Valiants and a Castellian?

Castellian Variant 2 for the engine and thunderstrikes for wagons.
