Post subject:  Epic infantry base thickness?

Hi all

I know the black rectangular strip bases are about 2mm tall, but anyone know how thick the small circular base on each model is? I can't seem to measure mine accurately enough (I only have a ruler), and I'd guess maybe 0.8mm, but I'm going to be recessing them in plastikard and I'd like a really snug fit.

Anyone done this and have an exact number? I know anything close to 1mm would work, but I'll be using very fine sand and you can really see when the models' base is proud of the gaming base.

Cheers all!

I use .8mm plywood to recess them and it works fine. Anything between that and 1mm would work.

Cheers Dave, I suspected as much.

Currently thinking: metal 'repair washer' + plastikard with holes in = tyranid base win!

Before anyone asks, I've learnt from MoK and I won't be using wood filler!

Try thin craft cork-board: bought some from Michael's -- very easy to use, a paper punch makes nice holes that are exactly right for epic minis.

Yes, you want the 1/32 (.8mm thick) stuff. I got some of it on Cary's suggestion, it works well. I'm using it on FoW bases, with a 1/4" hole punch and a pair of hobby scissors that cut half circles to round the corners.

That's a brilliant suggestion. Not quite sure what it is called but you can also get this sort of foamy-rubbery material in arts and crafts stores. Use the paper punch to make the infantry holes. The material is flexible enough to stretch a bit if necessary. Glue to a piece of 1mm plywood or plasticard and you should have a pretty decent base. I think the foamy surface of the material should be open enough to accept pva glue for flocking/sanding.
