The title kinda gives it a way. I plan on picking up some Hydra's and I like the look of the FW ones. However after getting a pack of Firestorms I found their barrels to be VERY fragile. Are the Hydra's that bad or are they more durable??

FW Hydra's are lovely models and much more durable than the stupidly fragile Fire Storms, you don't have to worry to much there.

Well awesome, thanks for the info Glyn!

Damn cheeky Elves and their soap bubble Wraithbone.

i prefer the GW metal ones.

although the FW ones are less then half the price, so i just picked some up :p

will be getting some more GW ones at some point.

in my mind they are just the same tank, just different patterns from different forgeworlds

They're both quite nice models and in terms of durability there's nothing to worry about. Just go for whichever once you like better.

I seem to remember the GW Hydra tracks being molded on back to front - you may want to consider that when ordering.

The FW hydras are nice but the barrels are thin and fragile and will warp and bend in warmer areas.

True. Same thing goes for their hellhounds. Not sure about the Deathstrikes, Manticore or Chimeras though.

Only the Hellhounds and Hydras have their tracks on backwards.

I prefer the FW Hydras, incidentally.

I've got all kinds (old GW, spec games, FW). I like the FW Hydras and have never had one break a barrel on me.

I quite like the 3rd ed ones with the sensor widget they omitted from the recast ones.

I'm with TRC and prefer the E40K versions.

I like the FW Hydra better, but it does have one irritating point: The turret needs to be modified to elevate the guns.  Kind of silly for an AA platform.

It does? The ones I have are pointing upwards, albeit diagonally.

Some of mine are angled up, with no conversion work needed.
