All detail on these shoulder pads is GS cast relief detail and not freehand, the relief depth varies between approximately 0.25mm and 0.1mm. In response to some comments in this thread I present 2 chapter shoulder pads, made without the need for any sculpting ability or tools and then cast in greenstuff using a press mould. ![]() If you can draw the chapter badge you can do this. You could probably cast 3 a minute if you really wanted to. If you do it yourself id advice trying to centre the badge and of course draw it backwards..this only occurred to me after id made these. ![]() (40k scale shoulder pad image from lexicanum) |

To mould: 1)Find a marine and some super sculpy, roll out a small bit of sculpy ![]() 2)Press marine’s shoulder into sculpy ![]() 3)Draw the chapter design into shoulder imprint with a pin ![]() 4)Square off the sculpy and cook, mould done |

To cast: 1)Lubricate the sculpy with cooking oil 2)Press a small blob of GS in, applying even pressure with a bit of plastic or the flat of a knife 3)Remove the plastic/blade, the greenstuff will be stuck to it, cast in the correct shape 4)Slip the GS off the plastic/blade and allow to cure ![]() 5)Trim excess GS away, cut off the marines shoulder and stick in your new shoulder pad. ![]() |

Nice how-to! ![]() I could see doing something similar to make spiky Chaos shoulder pads and other bits. |

Could you not make a small seal and put a small blob o' greenstuff on the shoulder pad directly then press in the seal? Save cutting and cooking oil. |

Brilliant!! I'd love to see someon do the suggested Chaos shoulderpads, especially on Terminators.... ..and of course; This will also work on JetBikes, Rhinos, LandRiders...... ...Lost Sponsons.... |

Yes you could ![]() Definitely worth a try, however oil/lubricant is still needed to ensure the GS sticks to the shoulder not the seal, you could use water but this is far slower as it bust be re-applied after each press unlike the oil (personally i don't use cooking oil, i use a small complimentary bottle of olive oil vinaigrette that i carry in my modelling toll box ![]() Also you would have to judge the size and position of the GS blob very precisely, otherwise the *splurge* would mean you still had to cut and smooth the green stuff. (from what you said i can think of 2 methods you could do but im not sure which you mean? , 1) making the mould as described then pressing it over the shoulder, 2) carving the design into a hard seal/punch, that is not shoulder shaped, and then pressing this into GS all ready shaped over the shoulder with no need for sculpy.) |

Meant the latter, but both would work. I'm figuring most non-insane people wont worry if the design isn't perfectly aligned and clean of edge too ![]() |

And details such as 0.6mm tall writing would be near impossible to carve into a seal unless you used a 3d printer or a pantographic punch cutter. Unless of course you used the tutorial method to make a GS seal, and then used that to press into the green stuff... ![]() |
