My legion of resin Imperator Titans

Hi fellow Epicureans, I present with a minimum of fanfare my most ambitious project: to recreate an Imperator Titan in resin. I wanted my own Imperator, but was appalled by the fact that they are out of production - every Titan built forever reduced the number of Titans that other people could enjoy.

So, I set out to do something about it. My original goal was to create 6 copies, then I upped it to 10. Now I am currently stalled out at around 5 complete sets. The only thing I need to cast to meet my goal of 10 are 5 platforms, 20 spires, and 16 corner turrets.

The cost of the project? Approximately $100 in silicon and resin. The time involved? Since early summer.

Here's a special shout-out to Consectari, who loaned me a few pieces of his own: Word to your mother!

Here's my personal Titan built out of the crappiest pieces and initial castings (note molds in the background)...

Wow! Fantastic stuff!
Although I think you should go for twelve, then you could have the entire Legio Ordo Sinister....

Welcome to the forum, Otter!

Wow, impressive work. Looking at the parts you would hardly know that they're re-casts.

Glad you could join us.

Nice to finally see what all the fuss was about.

That's going to look outstanding all painted up.  Can't wait to see that!

My AM stuff is done in a two tone scheme - a cream color and a red/terracotta, representing a Martian detachment.

As far as legality goes, I'm not planning on selling it, so I should be OK. GW has bigger fish to fry, and I'm not without substantial legal recourse in my defense (if necessary).

I will probably give a few away as gifts to bartertowners that have treated me well; Consectari is slated to receive one, once I begin casting again.

Wow, just wow.

That is some top notch casting.  I've done a fair bit of casting for epic, but nothing on that scale.  What did you use for the molds?  RTV rubber?

Can't wait to see how they turn out.  I doubt you have anything to fear from GW unless you try to sell them.  Casting parts for personal use has been done for ages by model makers (eg. for 1/35 scale armor).

One suggestion:  you most likely have some parts that didn't cast well (i.e., the rejects).  I'm sure these would look awesome as ruins/debris/wrecked titans.

Keep up the great work.

CF

Welcome aboard!

Would you mind doing a tutorial about resin casting? Up to and including mold making. Warmaster Nice would love to have it for Incoming! (our resident eZine) and I would love to read it.

Where did you get the mold material and resin?
