I just received a package from NinjaMagic, containing some bronzes I'll try to cast. Among them was a 6mm scale alien that somehow and completely by accident could be used as a Ravener, although of course it absolutely doesn't look like one. Now, when I sent this thing to be casted, NM was like "you are aware how small that thing is?" and the smartass I am I was like "of course I know, I modelled it, it's for 6mm scale, blah blah" and he was like "okay, then so be it". It's actually some 9 mm high, with its tail being curled up on the base, resulting in a total snake-length of something like 15 mm if it was laid out straight, which should be a nice Ravener size. However, I was kind of shocked to see how out of scale the other Epic guys are. It's about as big as a Guardian, a little taller than a Termagaunt and even just about two thirds the size of a Hormagaunt with its damn claws stretched out. It just doesn't look like "put me on a base with at most two of my kind and treat me like a light vehicle". Whaddaya say? Cast anyway or re-order twice as big? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Get a bigger one done, Raveners are meant to be really big, as big as a Warrior. |

The photo is too blurry for me to properly see, but looks good!  ![]() Does look a bit small, but twice as big would seem too big then – try to scale it as best as possible to W40k model IMO (think the old epic warriors were out of scale). Don’t you have a sculpted new style Ravenor done as part of your project E&C? How does that compare to this? (couldn’t find the particular thread) |

Good job but I'd say twice as big at least. Much of Epic is actually closer to 8mm. |

It's really just my camera combined with my less-than-awesome photography skills ![]() NM's picture was more on the sharp side of the force: ![]() Imho it's already much more detailed than the original models... But still, quite some detail was eaten by the machine, so scaling it up should make it even better ![]() |

That would make a good broodlord. |

Ooh very nice! ![]() This is almost definitely an unnecessary comment but you are aware that the W40k Ravenor is on a 40mm monsor base and not a normal smaller 25mm base yes? (assuming you probably have an actual one, but if you'd just based this on a online photo of a single Ravenor you might not have realised and hence scaled it too small). |

Very cool! ![]() I agree that it is a bit small though. At this scale you might also want to exaggerate some details a bit. I know print resolution is also an issue here, but stuff like ribs might pick up paint better if you make them a bit more pronounced than they're supposed to. Also the scything talons look a bit fragile. First of all there's the issue of metal flow for the casts. Bigger % of mistasts for very flimsy parts. Secondly I think this is going to be very difficult to remove from the spure without breaking the arms or making a wrong cut on the talons as it is now. Of course upsizing this beast wil solve many of the issues mentioned, but I just thought I'd point it out to help enhance an already very impressive model ![]() |

So long as it's being done in metal I think it'll be fine, you'll just have to be careful when removing it. Resin would be more fragile and time consuming to carefully cut away the connecting material little by little, but should be possible too. A bigger version should hopefully help anyway. Personally I think a bigger version should be fine without needing to oversize anything myself, I prefer detail to look subtle and to scale rather than sillily over-sized like on some of the old tyranid sculpts ![]() |

I said it before, but if you're going to go to the trouble of having a metal mold run up for this beastie, it's best to get it right. A bigger version would be good enough to add to the Community Tyranid Project that I oversaw. |

Very nice, agree with the others twice as large should look perfectly fine. |

Resin for that guy? That's looking for trouble. Nicely modelled, very good! Make bigger, work long time. |
