One of our esteemed forum members has been gracious enough to take me up on a painting commission offer...so to keep me uber motivated and to get feedback etc that will help keep these mini's topnotch i'm starting this mini blog Here's what we've got in store: ![]() from left to right: Starfire Vestri Scout, Starfire TFN Light Cruiser and a base of Homeworld 2 Vaygr lance fighters. Tanks are 2 Slagger Tank Hunters and a Hadrian Heavy Artillery piece; both from Nectaris world. We'll be going camo for the tanks, Buddhist Orange for the light cruiser and all crazy details with the fighters! So; what are these mini's like? LIGHT CRUISER ![]() Nice simple design; some twiddly bits underneath; casting was near perfect with only a bit of flash to remove. SCOUTS ![]() These came with a bit more flash but that was removed. A few air bubbles but these have been filled with superglue. FIGHTERS ![]() these guys are really cute and because of all the little details that are going to be added will be quite fun to paint. One of the lance barrels came off in shipping but has been replaced by plastiacard and i don't think it's too obvious which one that is? SLAGGER ![]() Again; nice and simple but with enough details to allow things to be picked out and emboldened. What's interesing with these tanks is that the armour surface has been left with dimpled 'waves' from the printing process; with a slight wash i think this will actually make the surface look quite interesting. Unless of course it's owner would like the surfaces more 'flat'? HADRIAN ![]() ![]() This is my favourite; it looks brutal! Detailing in the tracks look's fun to do; separate cogs and everything! For all three of these tanks i think i'm going to take inspiration from the sort of style shown on the Exodus Wars Guild Armour. Undercoating tomorrow; at the moment all models have been given a light brush in soapy water to remove any mould release agent still present that would result in paint chipping off. |

Work begins on the Flotilla today, i'm sleeping in my tent at the moment in the garden and it's so lovely to have the sunrise wake me; 6am this morn! Come 8 i was at the workbench! Starting with the TFN light Cruiser: Basecoat in grey and metals ![]() Shading and metals given a wash: ![]() Succesive highlights and such like brings us up to this state: ![]() ![]() Though in all fairness neither picture has captures how it looks at the moment in "REal Life"; the highlights are a lot more dramatic. Anyway; a few details being done in blue and the engine stuff to be done and then we're done! (Work so far: 2hrs) |

Done and Dusted, about 2.5hrs work. Now that i've figured out how i'd like Starfire ships to work i could probably do them a lot quicker/in bathces. Think the Vestrii scouts will use a wash though instead; different race; different look. ![]() ![]() For the next ships i'm going to use a very fine sanpaper to smooth the hull down however; the printing process leaves a lot of very fine rims on the surface that made making things really sharp a little more difficult. |

Replacements and Reinforcements turned up today in the shape of more Nectaris Bison, Hadrian and Slagger tanks/Artillery pieces. ![]() What's neat about these is that Todd's put little bits of wire in the barrels so as they won't break. Unfortunately i'm out of undercoat at the moment so they'll have to wait till i go down town later today to be primed. |

Well would you look at that! Some Vagyr Lance Fighters (these are only a little larger than FW BFG Thunderhawks!) seem to have materialised out of thin air! ![]() ![]() |

Nice stuff, Kent Dweller. On the subject of lance fighters, I have prints of the new embiggened gun version, but no molds. |

EDIT: i must point out here that my camera isn't all that good; the model (as before) is a lot sharper and the colours/highlights more defined in the flesh; i shall be endavouring to get my photographer housemate to take some proffesional shots once they're all done. Texan Test Tank Number 1: ![]() Details/Closeups. ![]() If a certain Mr Dillen would like to speak of any improvement he'd like to see now's the time to speak up ;-)! (Everyone else can just tell whether they like the model or not?!) All in all that's probably about 1.5hrs work , now technique is down and explored i'll be able to production line the rest :-) R> |
