I'll be posting pics of my Epic Tyranid WE's (Hierophants, Hydraphant, Hierodules, Harridans, Vituperator and Trygons) using 40k Tyranid parts and a brief rundown of the rough construction process. Firstly Hierodules and Trygons. For the trygon I used the well known chop a Hormagaunt in two technique and rebuild the lower body from greenstuff but I've used two sets of arms. Slight head reposition as well (cut the gaunt nub off). To build: Hormagaunt body, Pair Genestealer talons, Pair Gaunt Talons, Gaunt Head and Greenstuff. For the Hierodules I cut the tail shorter and the head nub off. Shave the head and head nub down further to position the head more forward. I removed the two tiny arms and rebuilt the chest with greenstuff to accomodate two sets of arms. Then I built up the back armour plates and head plates and added tail and leg plates. The barbed versions cannon uses the front of a fleshborer spliced to the spinefist arms. The scything version has toxin sacs added under the head. To Build Barbed: Termagant body, Gaunt Head, Pair Gaunt talons, 2x Fleshborers, Pair Spinefists and greenstuff. To Build Scythed: Hormagaunt body, Gaunt head, Pair Gaunt talons, Pair Genestealer Talons and greenstuff. |

Building a hierophant is a little trickier. I started with a warrior body and reversed the tail connection to create an arched body. I then built out the area around the leg holes, added armour to the underside (greenstuff) and repositioned the tail. For the head I used a warrior head shaved down at the back and added two side mouth pincers. For the rear legs I used warrior talons as the base shortened at the pointy end. The thumb claw was cut off and green sinew molded in greenstuff. The upper leg was thickened and extended and armour plates added to the upper and lower leg parts with greenstuff. For the front legs again I started with warrior talons. I cut the talon off a genestealer talon, drilled a small hole in the base and added it to the end of the warrior talon, using greenstuff to strengthen the joint and provide sinew to blend. The warrior talon above the talon itself was cut off and repositioned to make the angle between arm and talon larger plus the thumb claw was removed. The third segement of the arm was also removed. Armour plates were then added down the front of the talon. The twin bio-cannons used a pair of spinefist arms spliced to deathspitter barrels mounted upside down. Armour plates were added down the tail and bulked up over the back arch with greenstuff. Small spines were added into the back armour as it dried and added to the tail end and rear legs. To Build: Warrior body, warrior head, 4 warrior talons, 2 genestealer talons, warrior tail, Pair spinefists, 2 deathspitters, greenstuff and small spines Note that I made small spines from all those thumb claws cut off, carnifex armour plates/spikes, gaunt armour plates, rear part of warrior head (Mouth pincers) and anything else sharp and pointy. Side and front images of the two Hierophants I made (Tail up and Tail down) |

The hydraphant is similar to the hierophant. On the rear legs I didn't shorten the talon part. The front leg upper parts were extended and bulked out with added armour plates. The upper tail, top armour plates, and front legs/weapon mountings were all bulked out more with greenstuff. The ripper tentacles used a spinefist arm with the end cut off. The tentacles were made from three metal garden wires, covered in greenstuff with small claws added to the end. The arm and tentacles were then attached together and blended with greenstuff. The ripper claw used a genestealer talon with the talon cut off. A warrior head (pincer looking one) was added where the warrior mouth usually goes, greenstuff moldings to look like the pincers can move and the offcut genestealer talon added into the hole where the warior head is usually mounted to the body stub. To Build: Warrior body, warrior head, 4 warrior talons, 3 genestealer talons, warrior tail, 1 spinefist, Metal garden wire, greenstuff and small spines |

The Harridan and Vituperator are probably the hardest to construct. The Harridan uses the Barbed Hierodule cannons. I started with a gaunt body and left off the side leg piece. I then clipped/filed the rear legs and middle claws. I rebuilt the torso with greenstuff and made 3 arm indents on either side. The head was mounted forwards (Some filing required) with the neck stump cut off. Rear claws are gaunt scything talons. The wings use genestealer scything talons with a scything talon tip added to the elbow joint (could be greenstuffed or thin plastic). Then greenstuff was thinly stretched from the front talon over the elbow talon to the arm itself. An extra wing rib was aded with greenstuff and tidied up but it's mostly modelling preference. The wings were atached to the middle of the three arm indents with the guns up front and rear talons at the back. Extra armour plates and spines were modelled in greenstuff along the head and back, some tail bending was also applied. Finally mounted on a flying stand. To Build: Gaunt body, Gaunt Head, 2x Fleshborers, Pair Spinefists, Pair Genestealer Talons, 2 Talon tips, Pair gaunt talons, Flying stand and greenstuff. The Vituperator is essentially the same but with the following differences. Wings are based on warrior talons. The head is a warrior head with extra greenstuff modelling of the neck region under the head. The rear gaunt talons are replaced with genestealer talons. The front claws are made by attaching the antler like rear parts of the pincer variant warrior head to a genestealer talon and blending with greenstuff. To Build: Gaunt Body, Warrior Head, Pincer Variant Warrior Head, Pair warrior talons, 2 talon tips, 2x Pairs Genestealer talons, Flying stand and greenstuff. Either gaunt variant can be used but Hormagaunt bodies are better for Harridans and Termagant bodies are better for the Vituperator |

Very nice work! Make sure you're taking high resolution pictures, because stuff like this will be really useful when "EPIC: Hive War" is put together. |

So, this is the complete set of models from a box of gaunts, warrior box and bits box (plus some metal trygons for some sense of scale) |

Ok, better scale pic. To answer the questions. I've got high res pics of the component parts of each image and some of the combined pics plus some very limited works in progress. The Vituperator is ~6cm from the front head plate to tail tip with an ~8cm wingspan. The Harridan is 5.2cm long with a 6cm wingspan (The Termagant body Harridan is 6cm long). The Vituperator looks bigger from the larger head (but not longer), larger wider wings, heavier greenstuff back plating/spines and larger rear talons. I'll try to get a top down picture that shows size scale a bit better. The Vituperator appears larger than the Harridan but both don't have the bulk to match the in game DC, certainly not when compared to the Hierophant. |

They're not bad, I might even get them painted at some point (Way off time wise, some nid infantry, SM tanks and some Titans I fancy painting first). Anyway, a top down view that shows the rough size difference between Harridan and Vituperator. |

Is it possible to change the title to something else like "Arkturas WIP" as its likely to veer from Tyranid WE's. I've got a modified Mega Gargant and some Shoulder padded Warhounds that I may post pics of. Also something Tyranid but not WE to look at. |
