Post subject:  OGBM - substitutes?

Hi guys,

The OGBM rules have currently taken my eye as a force to collect and would complement my growing AMTL/Skitarii army nicely, plus provide a refreshing break from working on one or the other.

I really wanted to go for a true stompa style army (no infantry), not very effective I know but I like the theme.

So far I've knocked up a couple of scratchbuilt stompas based around sewing thimbles (for shape) with armour plates, power generators, guns and feet/tracks bolted on which I'm pretty happy with. Once I find a free picture hosting site I'll pop a couple of WIP shots up (any suggestions welcome).

My biggest problem I fear though will be kans and dreads, I was wanting roughly 30 of these but even at ebay prices the current metal models are still really expensive. Does anybody have any suggestions for substitute models/conversions I could use instead.

I was thinking of using imperial robots as kans but the tiny power klaws which really identify them are really small and fiddly and I doubt I'd be able to make one myself.

Many thanks

No help with dread conversions sorry, but I use a site called Image Shack for photo hosting myself, though it's the only one I've tried so I can't comment on how it compares to others.

Dreads are quite easy to scrachbuild with plasticard

You may look for old plastic ork Dreads too

Zog had a nice how-to for converting dredz & kanz HERE

Outside of that, E40K & SM/TL-era Plastic Stompas are pretty plentiful and inexpensive on eBay.  Similarly the plastic dreads and old metal kans tend to go for relatively little, but they do pop up for auction less often.

I took a bunch of the plastic dreads and chopped them down to kanz.  You can cut a middle section out of the legs to make them shorter and they still line up for gluing them back together and I cut off some of the weapons.  They are reasonably easy to distinguish on the board - 1 weapon/1 claw is a kan, 2 weapons/2 claws is a dread.

Not my favorite conversion, but functional.
