Does anyone know where I could pick up some 2mm brass rod (for aircraft) and I need some pin-vice replacements. Don't know what size it is (the same size as a paper clip, guessing 1mm?) It would help if the company is based in the U.S.

Thanks in advance  :D

The "Pinning Expansion Kits" from Privateer Press are quite good.

You're probably better off asking a local store to order it for you. Shipping is going to turn a $2 item into a $8 one.

The "Pinning Expansion Kits" from Privateer Press are quite good.

This is what Privateer Press has:

Detailed Description
Used for pinning most trooper models, this expansion set for the Formula P3 Modeling Drill includes replacement drill bits and brass rods. Refill set includes two .85mm drill bits and six .85mm brass rods in six inch lengths.

The Brass rod seems to be just a little too small for aircraft don't ya think? It would be nice if they included the drill bits separately.

I looked at what the Warstore had in GF9 stuff. They also bundle their brass rods and drill bits.

*sigh*

Thanks though guys.

Most general hobby stores & hardware stores carry products from K&S that would fit the bill: http://www.ksmetals.com/products.html

Pin vice bits should be easy to find at just about any hobby store.  I know the Wal*Mart of hobby stores, Hobbytown USA, carries them.

There's also a 1.25mm pack... which is actually what I think I'm using.

And the bits with the rod means your drill holes are always the right size!   :agree:

True, but I need some paper clip size drill bis. I wish I could buy a pack of those. It's always a pain when you break them as you have to buy a whole new pack with lots of sizes you don't need/already have.

I'll check out the 1.25 pack though. Just as long as I can pull off your "necklace clasp" trick.  :;):

Try a Home Depot or Lowes, ask for non-hex shank or chucked drill bits.

I've bought several packs of small drill bits there over the years, and the sales folks can be quite helpful.  Just bring a piece of the wire you want to use as a pin with you and they should be able to gauge it and find you what you need.

There is an Ebay store called UK drills (I know you're in the US, but shipping should still be fairly cheap) which sells lots of sizes of tiny drill bits in packs of 10. I have bought 0.5mm, 0.6mm, 0.7mm and 1.0mm from them, and they have been great.
For brass rod, I usually buy quite a lot in various packs from online stores; this is because although it is cheap enough, it saves on postage if you get enough to last you a while - and postage is usually quite high as it is harder to pack than other materials.

Generally paper clips are 0.8 mm so that's what you need for them.
I'm using 2mm brass rod for a titan I'm building ATM (40K scale) i got it from a RC car shop the drill bit is one from the 'old' GW pin-vice fits great.(I'm in the UK) but maybe that'll help?
i bought 3 lots of brass rod and i'm down to 1 1/2 rods left (i've use 18" in 2 weeks!!! so stock up  :;):
