Various distractions have put a complete freeze on painting for way too long.  My games room became a swimming pool after the hot water pipe busted within the wall cavety so all my gaming stuff got in a staight of dissary being moved aorund to make sure nothing was wrecked and create proper storage for everything.

As such I have fallen out of the tactical command month by month painting challenge so I thought I would start posting up a log now that I am back into the army.

It has kind of expanded beyond the smaller force discussed in the previous log and will be a pretty huge force.

I figured I would start getting into the Jetbikes to give the army a libberal helping of Saim Hann flavour.

I photoshopped a couple of 40K Jetbikes in the the image to allow comparision of the schemes (the ones with bases).

I probably have 8 times this amount still to paint :(.  I haven't counted but its a big big pile.

Except for the bases, there is almost no way of telling which ones are tiny. Great stuff. Now I have to add Eldar to my wishlist as well *sigh*

Looks cool, but why paint them off of a base? Wouldn't it be easier to base them first then paint them?

They are really easy to stick on the bases, they are just round bases with wires stuck in.

Batch painting 180 bikes is harder on the round bases I am putting them on as it changes the angles you need with the brush slowing down painting.  So my preference is just to paint them all off the bases and then figure that out later.

I also would prefer to do all the bases for the army in one big batch so they all look the same.

:oh: 180 bikes?! Jeez man, you don't do things in half measures do ya?

Again they look great. This is going to be a really nice army. Will you be including the Vampire Hunter model in your force?

It is a Saim Hann army after all.  180 bikes is only 60 stands, which is 10 units or 2500pts.

Oh I wish I were including a Vampire.  I love that model I painted a couple for CAL001 but alas, I recently bought a house and can not forsee a time when I will be able to afford one.

If someone could trade one to me I would definitely include one

Collecting large armies is something I have been doing for a long...... time.  I definitely got better ideas about putting in place a structured approach for getting them assembled and painted while worthing on the Ulthwe project.

I'm lucky enough to have two of them, but I want to play a Saim-Hann list as well. Tehy're nice models(if you're good with resculpting imperfect casts.

This army has developed into a 3000pt force in Tactical Commands absence (well actually over the course of a week or so before catching up with Onyx for a game, including painting the bases over the first 100kms of the drive down).

Scorpion

1 of 4 finished Jetbike Units

Wave Serpents and Titans

Shining Spears

I also had some falcons, firestorms and fireprisms in the force (1 formation) using this scheme (with the bases repainted)

I'll just chime in here and say that these minis look even BETTER in person than they do in these photos! (and they kicked my Tau's sorry butt's aswell  :)) )

Thanks to this beautiful army, I can really see myself getting an Eldar force in the future.
