Hi guys,

Been pretty busy recently playing Epic and more importantly, painting Epic. Got a few armies on the go as well as an almost finished one - my Thousand Sons.

This log will hopefully keep me on track with the following projects:
Tyranids
Eldar
Luna Wolves
War Griffons
Admech force

The problem I am facing is not painting the armies (although that is an ongoing struggle) but getting it photographed and posted.

Without further ado here is the beginnings of Hive Fleet Hydra. I have been slowly building this fleet over the last year since I first got my hands on some plastic gribblies from ebay. That set the spark for me...

With the light off and flash

Painting:
Tausept Ochre for flesh, dheneb stone for bone. Wash with devlan mud. Scaly green for the scales. Wash with asurmen blue and highlight up with hawk turquoise and a little white for extremem highlights.

This was a test piece on a metal figure so that if it was bad I can always strip and start again. Once I have finally decided (and received approval from you guys) I will start on the l'il critters.

C&C welcome, nay, expected.

D.

:))

Nice stuff, B.  The turquoise looks a tad neon to me, but then you know I'm biased.

Looking forward to seeing this build up.

Ah, building your own wee world

I have to say, photographwise the blue does look off, will have to evaluate in the flesh, asap, from the safety of a Baneblade turret.

So while Tac Comms was on hiatus I like many of you managed to actually paint stuff. I finally got round to putting some paint on my titans and got 5 of the buggers done:

Obligatory Pet Shot:

Pics still aren't the best and I still have to get the details done on the titans - aquilas, trims etc as well as banners and markings but i am chuffed to have 5 almost painted titans for my tian force. Just 2-3 more to go (warlord, warhound and Emperor) before I start assembling my traitor force to go up against them.

C&C welcome.

Thanks Onyx and Markconz. Really your work was the inspiration and is far superior than my own. I just plodded through them and thanks to some quick techniques and straight-forward colour schemes I got the desired effect.

One tip I picked up over at Warseer was for doing yellow.
Tausept ochre base
Sepia wash
Highlight Iyanden Darksun
Wetbrush darksun

I then added a little sunburst yellow to darksun for a final edge highlight.

I really find the new foundation paints and washes a great boost for 6mm painting. Coverage is great, colours are not too garish, pretty muted actually, and come in all main colours. If only they could get their white paint to be as good as foundation colours. On that particular note I use Vallejo Off-white as I have found 1-2 thin coats over black is perfect.

Lovely work. I've always liked the War Griffons' colorscheme ever since I saw those drawings in Codex Titanicus.

I dont know... the proportions are off and it just doesnt scream "I'm a dog, scratch my butt and pay attention to me". Better luck next time  :p

@Silentbob: You'd better watch what you say about my buddy - He'll have your fingers off! Verm1s can testify to that!  :p

@WarmasterNice: Yeah, the drawings in Space Marine: Battles and White Dwarf were what attracted me to the legio. I have not been faithful to the artwork but I felt I have given it a bit of artistic license.

@All: Will get some transfers done up and no one will mistake them for any other legio then. For sure!
