Hey guys

What kind of paper or other material do you use for banners and flags for your epic minis? I myself prefer pieces of plastic from blister packs, but those are only good for certain kinds of banners or standards. They cant be folded so well for instance.

Happy to get your input as always!

The bottoms of disposable metal pie tins is great:

They are thick but flexible, cheap, easily available, and they paint very well.  :agree:

I plan to use brass wire or plastic rod with paper banners (thicker than normal paper).

My ‘cheats’ method for banners and icons is to scan in / find online high resolution W40k symbols/banners, photoshop then down to scale and then print them off (I have a good quality IP5200 photo-printer with a resolution of 1 pico-litre or somesuch so the detail is great). These can then be cut out, glued on and the paper edges touched up with paint.

Example of printed off icons of the Raven Guard logo and the Imperial Eagle stuck to Rhino below (apologies for the not that great photo quality but hopefully you can see enough to have some idea):

The metal foil off of wine bottles works well.  It's bendy and you can shape/paint it easily.

Any good quality bond paper is fine, particularly if you use a laser.  Then use a spray fixative (go to the art shop).

I've seen great "waving in the breeze" banners made out of green stuff.

These are some very good and original tips. Id never before thought of using metal foil of any type, but it seems a good idea. Ive never used a printed image either, but many people seem to do that to great effect. I dont have a printer at hand though...

For icons you could use printable decal sheets + icons from bell of lost souls site. Plenty of stuff there. Banners too.

I've also found many useful banners from the Dawn of War PC game - LINK.

Of course, you're going to need a printer to get these onto your Epic minis...

Soda/Coca-Cola cans provide just the right amount of flexibility and thinness. Just be careful not to cut yourself on the edges!
