OK well, not quite yet. With the problems I've had with Forge World, building terrain, working on assembling Space Marines and Eldar, and not to mention general laziness this is more of a "place holder" thread than anything else.

It's also to show myself that I have done something lately.

Anyway I thought I'd give you guys a "sneak peek" if you will into what I've been up to. Just some WIP shots of objectives, but I promise more Eldar stuff to follow.

First things first. This old fella has been with me since I started gaming. He's led my armies through more battles than I can count!

In my opinion it is one of the finest Epic sculpts of all time (present included). He would still be leading my Eldar if he weren't so large. The scale of the guy is just all wrong, so unfortunately I'll have to replace him.

However, for posterity sake I thought it would be a good idea to take a picture of him as he was. Shame time took him off his base, but it hasn't been too rough on the old guy.

Be kind, this is one of the first minis I ever painted and that was well over a decade ago (using poly s paints no-less :sulk: )!

Next we have a WIP shot of the cleaned Avatar on his place of honor. The base was generously given to me by Otterman (my thanks O-Man!).

The original piece had a beautiful Buddha statue on it.  Beautiful as it may have been it just didn't vibe in the 40K universe.

So I took the god of peace, love, and harmony down and replaced it with the reincarnation of the God of murder and war.

If I were to be honest with myself it just "felt" right.

The green stuff on the base is the foundation for a wraithbone floor. In fact all of the "artifacts" and floors will be painted in bone(but more on that later...)

Next we have what began as a idle experiment into a full blown project. All I can say is that I should have taken it seriously to begin with. Several technical issues could have been avoided If I knew then that I was going to actually include that copy into my army.

The E40K era Wraithgate never "did it" for me aesthetically. It reminds me of the Titans and warwalkers of that era. I wanted to build something more organic looking and using the cover of the Swordwind book as inspiration I cobbled this together:

Front:

Back:

Well, Buddha may be a peaceful god, but it seems he doesn't take lightly the desecration of his likeness.

Shortly after I took these photos I had the bright idea of just drybrushing the bone. It came out horribly and the paint had to be stripped from both pieces, not to mention I accidentally broke off the foot of the avatar (don't worry he can be fixed).

Note to self: You can't drybrush worth a damn, always paint naturally, looks better anyway!

Things learned: greenstuff is as good as super glue if you stick resin onto it. Resin can be cleaned using normal break fluid. Greenstuff can be cleaned in Acetone and won't dissolve (had to repair the avatar's sword)

Lately I'm having the feeling of the 'ol one step forward, two steps back routine with my armies.

Probably too much on my plate at once. I'm not the superman some of you guys are.

Hopefully I'll post some more soon!

Fantastic looking 'Gate, Malakai!

Looking forward to seeing the paint though... :)

Agreed.  I like the gate a lot - I may have to snip some ideas from that model of yours. Good job  :D

What did you use to make the "notches" in the wings of the gate?  They look really cool.

A pin-vice was used to drill in holes then I used an exacto knife to carve it out from the edge, while trying to make sure the gap connecting the hole was slightly smaller than the hole.

For one of the first models you painted, that Avatar was pretty impressive.

Really like the wraithgate. Look forward to seeing it painted.

Following my trend of buying more than I will ever paint (or probably assemble) I got the last of my Eldar models (minus the backorder of Falcons of course)..

Still being shamed by the beautiful Eldar minis Axel F. has been putting out (at a machine-like rate!  :oo: ) I thought I would try and lock in the color scheme for my Iybraesil.

For this I chose a Vyper. It's metal (easy to clean if you mess up) and incorporates vehicle and infantry in one model.

Here is three different views, not because I think it came out great, but because I would like some serious C&C. If I'm going to be painting a whole army of this I'd like to hear some really honest opinions.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: Check out the cool custom transfer I had made for Iybraesil. AFAIK this is the first Iybraesil Epic mini! lol!  :p

Very nice. My only reservation would be that infantry in that reasonably dark shade of blue might not stand out very well against a quite dark basing colour. But without seeing some it's hard to be sure, so it might be fine.

Looks great otherwise, though. I look forward to seeing more.

Very nice Malakai, very nice indeed. I look forward to seeing more of this army in the near future.

Cheers

Many of us have probably accumulated a lifetimes worth of painting projects a long long time ago.  I am still trying to get to that point where I can let go and just admit I will never paint/assemble/use stuff and get rid of it.

Nice work on the wraith gate it is really impressive.  I am also in the process of painting Epic Eldar at the moment and still trying to plan how I will create mine.

The Avatar looked pretty good before you stripped it so I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

I like the color a lot. The dark blue with the light gray makes a good contrast. Or is that white? Will that be your wraithbone on the helmets and shuriken catapults?

Thanks for the comments guys.

The colors for the army are shuricats in black while the helmets and wraithbone bits are white.

Today I will probably try and figure out how I'm going to convert "fins" for my jetbikes. And looking over the test Vyper again I think I will change the blue stripes (notice on the vyper fins) into a different shade of blue. Right now they're just too close to the highlights I used on the vehicle. It sort of made the whole thing look like a pin-stripe blue tie I once had!

Hmm. I would think that this would make the shuricats very hard to see in the troop stands (blue armor and clack gun).

And there aint nothing wrong with pinstripes

My initial impression is ooh very nice. It's a dark colour scheme but I like it and the way you've highlighted it

My only suggestion would be to make the base lighter to make the model stand out more (and I thought this before seeing AxelFendersson's comment along the same lines), probably just a smidge lighter though IMO, I like the basic base colours but would go for a little more lighter drybrushing.

No drybrushing there dude. I know it sounds silly but I'm not good at it. I save drybrushing for bases.

As to the dark color, I admit it came out a little darker than I had originally intended, but not by much. Iybraesil are followers of Morai-Heg and spend time looting through Crone Worlds. In my mind they come across sinister (for Eldar) and I wanted the paint job to reflect this.

@SirBob

Yeah I'm going to have to be careful with the infantry. It might be necessary to paint them a shade lighter than the vehicles, which I'm ok with. Still I think if I'm careful with the highlights I can pull it off, but again, this might be a case where if something works in larger scale in might not at 6mm.
