I bought my first valkyries. How do I put it on the flying base? The hole on the bottom is too small and I don't have any way to drill into metal.

You can get a small hobby hand drill at the hobby shop or craft store. They are not too expensive. If you are going to be doing a lot of modeling it is a useful tool.  However you can also use an X-acto knife and/or files to make the hole bigger.  It's soft white metal and not hard to drill out or file.  You also can get an X-acto and small files at the hobby and craft stores ...  Hope that helps ...

You can order some tiny magnets and snap the little plastic nubbin off the top of the flight stand, glue one magnet to the bottom of the valk, and one to the flight stand.  This way you can transport them separate, you don't have to worry about the thing snapping off.

That's what I did with all of my fliers; tiny flat earth magnet on flight stem and bottom of aircraft.

Where can I get magnets like that, and what dimensions do I need?

I don't know the dimensions but probably 1/8th inch or so.

One concern -- part of the reason I havent made an order -- is that these little magnets are very dangerous for anyone else who swallows them.

Another source for magnets is K&J:

I just ordered from the amazing magnets - I'll report back on their quality & such.  Thanks for the info!

I've found that in attaching flying bases to models with magnets the model tends to spin too much. Especially if you're using different size magnets. The magnetic adapters from Ninja Magic work great though:

I don't glue my aircraft on the flight bases ... so I can just take them off for transport, etc. ... But that's just me ...  8v)

One concern -- part of the reason I havent made an order -- is that these little magnets are very dangerous for anyone else who swallows them.

I know for a fact that some magnet-based construction toys were recalled because some kid swallowed a few of the magnets that had come out of the plactic parts and either died or nearly so.

I think the biggest problem with the swallowing the magnet is actually swallowing more than one at a time. Basically, if the magnets started out separated, they could "attach" themselves to each other, often with parts of vital internal organs in between them (usually the walls of the intestines). This would lead to serious internal damage (perforations) and then infection.

Of course, the question arises, are you planning on eating these things? If you have kids/pets/whatever, how is it that you can keep them from putting the metal mini's in their stomachs? Can't you use the same techniques to prevent the magnets from being consumed?

My only problem with using rare earth magnets is that sometimes the magnetic attraction is stronger than the glue holding the magnet to the plactic stand. Fixing it once or twice is simple enough, but after awhile, the glue builds up and starts looking crappy.

You can also save money by only using the magnets for half of the magnetic connection, with the other half being a small nut or washer. This technique also saves you the trouble of making sure the polarity of the magnets are arranged correctly (with two magnets, there's a [good] chance that you could accidently glue them into a position in which they repel instead of attract each other).

I had the same problem when I magnetized my Titan weapons. When I glued magnets on opposite sides of the weapon, I had to make sure that the poles lined up correctly so that they did repel each other.

That's what I did. I bought a thin sheet of stainless steel and used a hole punch to cut small circles which I glued to the Titan itself, but put magnets on the weapons only.
