Greeting Fire Warriors!

I've finally received most of my Christmas Tau, so I've got 'em primed and based... and now I'm working on the colour scheme.  I think I'm going to go with a blue-grey/white/black urban camo.  Once I get some more Tau, I'm going to do a single Armoured Cadre in brick red/terracotta as some elite/special unit... but I didn't want to do the whole army that way.

I've started with some simple switch-back stripes for the first test.  I don't think I can do precision jags and zig-zags and maintain my sanity.  What would people think of a "splotching" pattern, like Flecktarn?

Anyway, here's my first test, let me know what you think!

I like it. I'm sure L4 will approve of it too.  :))

Thanks!

There will be unit designators and other small pieced picked out in "brighter" colours once it's done.

I think your camo looks more realistic (as compared to stylish).  That's fine by me.  The mini's are pretty enough to show off their qualities while still being camoflaged.

Yeah, there are a lot of little details on these models!

I keep having to refer to pictures in the Tau Empire Codex to determine what the various bumps and ridges are supposed to be!

I like it a lot, and a simple drybrush is perfect for these lovely minis.

But since youre still trying things out maybe (just maybe) it would be worth a try to actually lose the black and go with a 2-colour pattern? That might look rather less realistic though, but youll do it slightly faster...

Well, I'm not that worried about speed, I paint the black and the white at the same time off the palette, so that part is pretty simple.

The more I look at it, the more I like it... *laugh*  Not sure how I'm going to get it to show up on infantry though.

Looks really nice. I'd just go plain gray for the infantry to keep things simple. Camo patterns on infantry tends to get messy in 6mm scale IMO, unless you got some large flat surfaces like cloaks, capes, dusters etc to paint it on.

Thanks!

And, nope, the Tau infantry are lots of little "boxes" and pieces all stuck together... not a lot of continuous surface area to work with...

Great job on the painting, can't wait to see the rest of your Christmas Tau! By the way is that some type of splinter group with the Tau Empire??? :O
