So, I have just started painting a new Eldar army, and in a fit of vanity, decided to share it with the world. Hopefully, doing so will give me a bit of extra motivation to get it done, and maybe to do a better job than I otherwise would, knowing that people from all over the world will be seeing and judging my figures. I will freely admit that I'm not the world's greatest miniature painter; I consider myself competent, but I'm certainly nowhere near the standard of some of the fine people on here. I'm not that fantastic a photographer, either (and my camera's been playing up, so I'm having to borrow one that I'm not as familiar with), so sorry if the photos aren't the best.

This army hails from my own Craftworld of Yweh-Lai. I'd originally been planning to use the Uthwé list to represent the army, but shortly after getting the models I changed my mind, and am now planning on using the Alaitoc list instead (a decision which then necessitated ordering a few more models, which have yet to arrive). On the other hand there isn't much that can't be used in either list (and I still have a Seer Council stand assembled), so there's no compelling reason why I couldn't switch between the two on a game-by-game basis. But enough waffling, on to the models.

The first thing I painted was a basic Guardian Warhost:

And, for clarity, here's a side shot of one of the guardian stands:

Since adding unpainted upgrades to a nice painted formation tends to ruin the effect, the obvious next thing to paint was the Wraithguard. I have four stands currently:

Seeing as he's free, it seems fairly likely I'll be taking the Avatar in any game where I have a Farseer to summon him (i.e. most games). So it seemed a good idea to paint him early on. There's also the fact that the avatar is quite an intimidating model to paint, having quite a lot of detail all of which is very small and fiddly, so I was quite keen to get on and get him out the way. In the end I'm quite pleased with how he turned out, although I'm not entirely sure about the face. So here he is, the Avatar of Khaela Mensha Khaine, complete with molten buttock cleavage:

That's all I've done for now. Next up will hopefully be some Wave Serpents and an Aspect Warrior troupe.

Really cool color scheme. I'll be watching this thread closely.  :)

Hmm? There's a link to a larger image below each of the thumbnails in the post, which are already as big as the quality of the photos will justify.

Glad people like them so far. More coming soon.

EDIT: The image itself should now be the link, rather than some text below it.

Nice colour scheme and the wraithbone looks great, keep up the good work!

Did you invent the Craftworld yourself or it a little known one referenced somewhere?

Very cool!

I really like the "black iron" look of the Avatar.

So, when's your first game... and battle report?   :))

It's one entirely of my own invention. There's always the risk when finding something vaguely referenced and extrapolating from it that GW will later come along and develop it themselves completely differently.

Either next time I go to visit my old friends from University, or once I can find/recruit some Epic players around here. Unfortunately, I don't get to play that much Epic at the moment.

Three Wave serpents painted this evening. I'll take photos tomorrow when there's better light.

Three wave serpents:

I'm quite pleased with how these turned out, especially the cockpits, where the canopies are smooth on the Forge World models for some reason, so I had to paint the details on freehand.

These are armed with Starcannons owing to a cock-up at FW, incidentally. I originally ordered nine with Shuriken Cannons, but when they arrived, although the packets said Shuriken Cannons, they were all armed with Starcannons instead. So I gave FW a ring, and they sent me some replacements. But they were just the same: Shuriken Cannon on the packet, Starcannon inside. They've obviously got a whole batch that were labelled incorrectly when they were cast. So now I have 18 Wave Serpents with Starcannons.

I'll hopefully paint up some Dire Avenger passengers for these either today or tomorrow.

You know how you spend ages painting something and somehow it still never quite comes out right? That's these Dire Avengers.

Looking at them this morning, they aren't nearly as bad as I thought they were last night. The helmets are a bit messy, but otherwise they're passable enough. And the Autarch came out pretty nicely even if nothing else did. Still, I'm a bit disappointed with this formation.
So here's a Dire Avenger Aspect Troupe, with Exarch and Autarch, along with the Wave Serpents I posted before.

Probably some grav-tanks next. Then Rangers.

Yeah good stuff man. And I like that you used the old winged Exarch as your Autarch.

That's what I'm planning on doing as well.

By the way, is one of the shield generators on the front of your Wave Serpent broken?

Yeah, it snapped off while I was painting it. I tried to glue it back on but it fell off again without my noticing and got lost.

Fortunately it's not too obvious, but once I've got a few more painted I'll stop using that one.
