Thanks for the warm response. I learned a lot from these, which is good since I have some more equestrian projects coming up.

Lovely paintjob! Do you edge highlight the horses?

Sort of. A base coat followed by a wash. Then I painted raised areas in a first highlight to achieve the "horse muscles" effect, accentuated by a edge highlight. Without the build-up, it would not look the same.

Very impressive armies and painting.

So, I'm ready for a new year of painting. I still have some Tyranid and Steel Legion units I'd like to finish before getting to grips with the LatD and Inquisition armies.

First, I'd like to thank those who voted for me in the EpiComp. Given the fierce competition (french talent and Vaaish excellency and whatnot), every vote made me happy.

I finished some Objectives for my Tyranids, one to be used as Synapse Node with Spore Chimneys)

Blitz (my old Synapse Node with added interiors and a base)

Take and Hold 1 -Brood Nest - special thanks to E&C for giving me a miscast Tyrant Guard to play with.
Image

Take and Hold 2 - Capillary Towers - again thanks for the miscast Biovore.

New Synapse Node, with Spore Chimneys

As always, thanks for watching.

Nice. I've got a small pile of the Battle for Macragge Terrain waiting for use myself.

This is going back a bit through the thread but what did you use for the wings on the Hive Tyrant, Fredmans?

For the first one (the green one), I used old metal 40K Gargoyle Wings, from which I had to cut off the claws, replace with smaller plastic claws and then saw and file a more curved shape on the wing membranes.

For the second one (the reddish one), I just used a pair of ForgeWorld's Winged Ripper wings. I found a bag in a local GW store during some ForgeWorld campaign, and I plan to use most of the parts anyway for Harpies and Malanthropes.

The tricky bit is to remove the upper arm pair and to repair the weapons/arms that are left.

Just a small update. I am being immersed in some terrain projects for mine and Borka's upcoming tournament, but I sometimes manage to finish some missing formations or add-ons, like these Meiotic Spore Sacks. They are the standard Macragge Spore Mines, but I did not like the ground-hugging poses of them, so I did some carving and raised them to a more elevated position, trying to portray the feeling of an AA umbrella.

I bought a piece of clear plastic card for about 1£ in a modelling store that I used for flying sticks, and I think it looks really good, almost not visible at all.

As always, thanks for watching,
Fredmans

Thanks, fellas! Another minor update. I finished some Dactylis and a Biovore to bring my painted forces into the format of the current list. Sorry about the pictures, lighting conditions were not optimal this morning.

Hopefully, I am having a blast with my Tyranid terrain project. As I am leaving the "building" stage and entering the "painting" stage, I am a little nervous how it is going to end up. Hopefully, I will have some pictures up next week. Thanks for watching.
