The fate of the Nectaris line

So, I've made 3 designs based on the old hex-based computer strategy game called Nectaris / Military Madness (you can Google or Wikipedia for further info). My designs can be seen here: http://s693.photobucket.com/albums....rations

The resin molds are working, kind of, but not as satisfying as metal would be.

This leads to questions...

Should I continue designing Nectaris stuff? It's satisfying to me, but I can get that sort of satisfaction with Exodus Wars designs.

Should I continue casting in resin? It's a distraction and only the esteemed Tertius seems interested.

Should they go into metal production? I estimate $250 to bronze all 3 designs, and probably about that much again to get modest metal production going.

Could they be an "agressor force" for Exodus Wars? Considering that they're based on some neglected Japanese IP, probably not. But then again, that never stopped people like GZG and their "not Babylon 5 fighters" or Ravenstar Studios and their "not Battlestar Galactica" designs.

The Nectaris stuff is cool, but I personally would rather see you applying your talents to EW.

I never played Nectaris, so they hold little place in my heart. I say do what you want to that makes you happy.

Yeah, we never got that console down here so I'd never heard of Nectaris.  They are cute, but don't really fit in this milieu.

What? A guy can't have his own private miniatures line?  :blues:  Come on.

I, obviously, really like the Nectaris stuff. Not because it is Nectaris (I had never heard of it), but because I am a sucker for tanks, it has a consistent [and very high quality] look and feel, and nobody else will have it. I have been using them for my own 6mm ruleset as a unique tank force that players will not recognize as Epic, Battletech, etc., to positive comments from players.

I concede that I alone am not a reason to keep making them ( I am a horribly unreliable customer, and I am cheap :) ).
I do think that if you filled out the range to make up an army, you would really have something of value on your hands. (I think they would make excellent pieces for a boardgame, for example.)  The fact that they are 'inspired by' designs in an old console game could be an issue, but I doubt the IP holder would care (it's not as if the Nectaris tabletop game is about to be released from Privateer Press or anyone else anytime soon).

Have you considered starting a little web-store [other than here on TacComm] with your own line of minis? Your products are every bit as good as ones I have gotten from much bigger 'professional' miniatures companies.

In the end, if you enjoy it, go with it. If not, it probably ain't worth it.  If you are on the fence, PM me. Maybe if I can agree to buoy the hit you take on molds, i.e. commit to buying the first x-models of each design to defray the costs(in resin, I can't eat $500 on metal production without an indication of return-on-investment).

I think you hit the nail on the head regarding a complete line.

As far as webstores go, I suck at being one, so emulation of Todd Boyce / Rattlehead games may be the correct route.

I liked the sample that you sent me, Otterman, and if you enjoy making them, I think you should keep doing it in some form or other.

I know I would buy some, but here is the problem: between all the other pieces your produce (on your own and as a "contractor") new releases from others and generally buying up what comes up for sale locally, my hobby dollar becomes stretched. It really is a matter of priority, I fear, and my personal collection has not hit the saturation point with basic items.

Now, if you were to produce them in 10mm (or "N") so that I could use them with my battletech stuff, then we would be in business (metaphorically, of course). I may be the only one for that, though, and I know 6mm is your "thing".

Today I learned that HudsonSoft is remaking Military Madness.

I don't think it looks as good as the PlayStation version.
