Thinking too much while painting... how to make space dwarf armies that can use the current in development space dwarfy lists floating about, by using nothing except figures that can be bought from current manufacturers. Exodus Wars Khazari are obvious with infantry, bikes, robots, mortars, the buggies as the trikes. I was then thinking the Droid Controller would actually make a better looking Overlord (it looks a hell of a lot more sensible and cooler to me than the original 'airship' idea): http://www.exoduswars.com/store/khazari ... -p-67.html Khazari Vultures as Iron Eagles: http://www.exoduswars.com/store/khazari ... -p-66.html Mining Machine as Mole: http://www.exoduswars.com/store....dc6fbc7 Then from Dark Realm, the Castellians for superheavies, like cyclops, collosus etc: http://www.darkrealmminiatures.co.uk/store....&page=2 http://www.darkrealmminiatures.co.uk/store....&page=3 Plus whatever vehicles you might prefer for the other squat vehicles like the transports (gorgon, spartan etc). And hey, that's just about got the various unit types covered... What about goliaths? Maybe that big gun off the Castellian-1 would be a good start? There was hardly much to the original GW model after all... Also I was noting that the DR and EW stuff often comes with extras that would be useful for adding turrets and things to the Castellians, if you wanted to match them more closely in terms of WYSIWYG to the statlines in the various lists. Not too fussed on Land Trains so haven't worried about those... Anyone else been having similar thoughts? |

I think that droid controller looks too "necron" or "UFO" ish. I like the mining drill thing adn the iron eagles. I would have got those instead of the actual 12 iron eagles I just picked up heh. |

(it looks a hell of a lot more sensible and cooler to me than the original 'airship' idea): OI!!!! There's nothing wrong with the concept of airships!  ![]() ![]() Some interesting 6mm airships may be convertable from 1/35 (or larger) scale aircraft bombs or missiles. That said I suppose the Droid COntroller could be made to look less necron if you remove the crystal shield emitter on top ad replace it woth some sort of superstructure. The circular shape could be justified as Squattish: The vikings in Denmark had a type of foritfications known as the "ring fortresses" (my own translation of the word. Not sure the actual name in english) so with a bit of creativity I think the droid controller could be made in line with the norse theme. ![]() |

Interesting in addition to those Norsey reasons, and in addition to liking the model more than an 'airship' idea (sorry warmaster!)... I actually considered that the shape of the Droid Controller was easily justifiable (and maybe even more appropriate than a dirigible these days!!) given Demiurge relationiship with Tau and shapes used by them and other allied races, eg: ![]() ![]() ![]() Edit, though yes agreed that ditching the pyramid on top and the necron like paintscheme with the metal and 'crystals' would help too... ![]() |

And just reading further, Demiurg gave Ion Cannon technology to the Tau apparently...? (and presumably other stuff like circular norsey designs... ![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demiurg_(Warhammer_40,000) The Demiurg are known to have an 'allied' relationship with the Tau, being noted as economic relations of the Tau Empire, and were initially introduced to the Tau via their mutual relations with the Kroot. The Tau acquired their knowledge of ion cannon technology from the Demiurg; this technology is now heavily used by the Tau in their armies and fleets. Two Brotherhoods of Demiurg, the Srry'Tok and Thurm, are known to have joined the Tau Empire. |
