And so I will soon start my first 3D 6mm infantry experiment. The goal: to render in 3D, for 6mm print and investment cast, a Sabbat-helmet wearing, bolter equipped Battle Sister.

Rationale:
1) Still exploring 3D design parameters.
2) Witch Hunter codex was released 2 days before Bella's birthday.
3) I like "the sisters".

Design observations of pre-existing metal infantry:
A) The base is a cylinder 1mm thick, 5.6 mm diameter.
B) Swords (not necessarily applicable in this case) are .8mm by 4mm
C) Gun muzzles are .7mm long, 1mm diameter.
D) Gun barrels are square in cross section, 1.2mm on a side.
E) Heads are rounded boxes 2.7mm by 1.7mm wide by 1.8 mm tall.
F) Arms are approximately .8mm thick.
G) Easier designs have no gap between the the legs. For the Sister, the gap will be reduced by the tabard.

I should look for some Eldar females in order to determine the appropriate size for boobies.

Update: those Eldar chikkies are a pirate's dream: sunken chest.
Update 2: boobies covered by gun on my test model. Irrelevant to discussion.

He he he... You said boobies  :vD
Sorry mate, couldn't help myself.

Looking forward to this. I'm amazed at this 3D stuff.

Steve.

Ugh, this is NOT going to be easy. It looks NOTHING at all like a Sabbat head. Perhaps I should recreate the head in 28mm scale, and shrink it until it looks acceptable.

P.S. Boobies boobies boobies!

why not do sisters bareheaded with a standard bob haircut.  Draw a dome, make a rectangular indent for the face.  Optionally add a small point for the nose.  Should be enough in 6mm.

I was playing with some fake boobies today.  Amazing how much difference there is between 225mls and 340mls!

Well, I've always said that.

(Just kidding. Obscure reference to Ron White's quote "You can't ride home in a bowl of goat. I've always said that.")

I would say: leave out the boobs. Make hips and waist, boobs are not supposed to show under ceramic armour. :D

Great tits for reference: http://www.btinternet.com/~micka.wffps/great_tit.jpeg

LOL

Otterman, I'm still interested in all the previous mentioned bits and bobs and now especially interested in this new one so if, and hopefully when, successful put aside several for me and I'll try and keep in touch.
Cheers

Those were great tits. Now I just need to find references for a Booby, a Titmouse, a Woodcock, and a Titpecker.

(reference: The Simpsons episode "Bart the Mother")

Are you using sketchup by any chance?

Cos if so, I might well be sending you some other designs to try...
Let's just say I was very disappointed the Sister's got nothing for Apoc.

(I've also got Autocad 2004 and access to Autocad 2006 LT if either of those are any better.)

I'm not.  For the first time I feel this unnatural digitamalised jiggery-pokery threatening to make my right and proper GS an endangered species. :sigh:

(Seriously though, I do want to see the results.  Very interested to see how it turns out 6mm infantry.)

I use MoI (www.moi3d.com).

Silly Vermis. There's no way anyone could make a professor Beatty in 3D, as you did with GS.

I think 3D is most suited for machine-looky, symmetric designs, or designs with a lot of repetition. GS and/or putty appears to be the go-to substance for classic 28mm figures.

Certainly GS can hold some types of detail better.

Sculpting muscles and things is a pig to do on a computer.

GS can't be shared online though. So short of posting you blocks of the stuff, I can't really contribute the way I can to this.

It's when we (and by that I mean otterman) start producing models with specific gaps for adding greenstuff fur, hair, muscle definition ect.

Besides, I don't own a rapid prototyper (yet) but I always computer model something I going to sculpt. It means I have an exact reference guide for sizes to refer to and other ideas can be tried out with no repercussions. It's not really much more then an extremely detailed concept sketch.
