Anyone got Tau proxies painted that they could show off? as FW tau models are abit steep in price.. a 4k army would be VERY expensive *shudder* so any goodlooking proxies would be nice, prolly mostly for infantry / walker models as the Tau vees are just to sexy :)

I think that the Ground Zero Games CGI tanks could be a good hammerhead.

Wasn't there some 6mm infantry that had "boxy" Tau-like weapons as well?

I think someone used DRM Kraytonians as Tau proxies. EW Guild centuria would also work very nicely I think. light powerarmour, squarish weapons, no human faces. With the right paint job they could certainly do the trick.

I believe that Onyx uses DRM as Tau and Kroot proxies in his "Some of my Armies" thread.

LINK to the thread page.
The crusader infantry are a little larger than GW stuff but these are game pieces to me so it doesn't matter.

The Kraytonian bodyguards are excellent Tau Firewarrior proxies.  GZG Kravak are ok Kroot proxies (dey got da dreads) except they dont have the elongated Kroot rifles.

I was painting up a proxy Tau army for a friend to use that would match his 40K Tau, but he got rid of the 40K army so I moved on to other things.

Nothing too fancy, I just painted up old Space Marine Ork boyz as Fire Warriors, no conversions.  For the BattleSuits I was using Battletech Battle Armor.  Maybe a bit large, but for proxies they worked for me.  Drones were simply plasticard circles punched with a hole punch, other plasticard bits and straight pins.

After painting up the Ork Boyz, I thought that a "simple" way to get the heads to look more like Tau Helmets would be to try cutting of the ork head and turning it backwards so ork chin stuck out behind like the Tau helmet.  Making a longer Tau like gun wouldn't be too hard of an addition to the ork boyz either, but not necessary.

Didn't get around to it but was going to use Dark Reapers as Stealth Suit proxies and probably fewer ork boys on a stand for Pathfinders.

I think I have a few EW Legionares lyig arround somewhere. I can paint a mini to show how it might look as a tau proxy. Only problem is that I've never actually painted tau before si I guess I'll have to improvise a bit on the color shceme :p

Well, more or less.
These are explained here.
Ignoring the weapons fitted, the shape is quite good. They're clips from plastic clothes hangers.

The Battletech Battle Armor looks fantastic, major bonus being that they would be heaps less fragile.

You could use the Mechwarrior infantry....should be cheap seeing the game is dead.

I used some for Slann battlesuits:

The smaller suit on the left is a Purifier and would work 2-3 on a 12x40 base I think.  LMK if you need any!

Here are some Kraytonian bodyguards, though not painted as Tau:

Note the long, boxy weapon and Tau like head!

That statement is very surprising coming from such a talented artist like yourself.
