Well, both Chaos and Orks have had a chance to show off, so how about the multitude of Imperial Guard regiments out there!

Just muster your men and tanks and snap a shot!

Here's my meager 6000 points of Guard, using the old "Cadian" infantry (there's probably another 1000 or so points unassembled... I mean, in training).

here is my all most full regiment





its just around 15000 point sm2/netepic and still growing my goal is 22000 point exactly a regiment it is meant to be a addhocc formation

A question for the treadheads out there:  Does, at least at this distance, my camo look okay?  Is that the way it's normally applied, randomly, or would each vehicle follow a specific pattern or something?

I guess L4 would be better qualified to answer that. I'm not completely sure. I guess for some speical and complex patterns (such as the cold war Berlin urban scheme posted a while ago) there'd be some fairly specific guidelines. For example I believe every tank in Berlin was to be painted exactly the same way to make it harder for russian spies to determine exactly how large a Nato force was present in the city. However under battlefield conditions but also on some current vehicles I've seen myself, it does look fairly random with just some basic overall rules.

me too the rule of camo is to brake the couture of the vehicle so when you se a tank in the woods you don't think ahh there is a tank but must think hard to realise its a tank  to the rule is no line follows the shape of the tank or other vehicle it is not a good idea for example to paint the underside of a plane pure sky blue for then you can still make out its a plane on the sky but if you fuss up the shape by a little white then you got it carmoed another example is tank and winter use coolers that would be found in a winter landscape like white, grey green and brown. the pattern is decided by the local plant growth and landscape formations.
the normal types of camo schemes on earth is fleck tarn there is preferred in northern Europe. us use the woodland scheme with different coolers not because it is the best but because its good enough in all treaters the asians use a more leaf like pattern do to the denser vegetation in asia there have never been made a specific camo scheme for middle east and north africa they all use either the us or the Russian dessert scheme the Russian is basically a fleck tarn meeds woodland scheme

but i she you have broken it up but i would use a tree cooler scheme instead of just 2 it confuses more and when we talk camo it gold and in a green scheme don't use jag or tiger unless you use a lot smaller stripes and tree cooler

Nice work boys !! Normally camo schemes on vehicles follow a specific pattern. Field Manuals show colored drawings of how to paint each type. However, your camo patterns are fine. No reason they can't be all different, even in the 40K universe. :)  Camo in general is used to blend in with the terrain and at the same time break up the outline and shape ... He can't hit what he can't see ...

But in the 40k Universe, Camo is not so much about blending in but more as a Regiment's Heritage or nobility. For example the Narmenian Tank Company (used in the Defense of Vervunhive during the interhive war) was bright mustard yellow in a gray/black urban environment. Or the Mordian Iron Guard who wear their bright blue/red fatigues no matter which theater of war they are in. Or even my beloved Tanith First and Only who always wear their signature black fatigues, but change only the color of their camo-cloak.

If you are interested in further study of camo in the 40k universe pick up a Dan Abnett novel or if you have a couple dollars kicking around, by a Forge World Imperial Armour book (which i have and is really interesting because it shows full camo patterns for almost every theater of war.

Here is also a link to the 40k site Tank Camo Schemes which can give you some ideas.

Either way I think your Guard are well painted. In the end it doesn't matter what others think, only if you're happy with the end product. :)

Also, in an army the size of epic, ESPECIALLY when you're gonna push for 22,000 points  :laugh: all the forces in that army will not be from the same Regiment, or even the same army. The imperial guard are famous for smashing differnt regiments together to make a fighting force idea for the situation (or whoever is close enough to fight the battle). So the uniforms and camo schemes can sometimes GREATLY differ and in some instances severely clash. I'll cite the case of Vapone "Blue Bloods" with their bright blue storm trooper armor and Tanith with their black/dark stealth uniforms.

Here is mine, mostly tanks for now (just one heavy company for infantry), green camo mostly, the shadowsword & stormhammers are blue.
Still got one siege company, a hellbore, one mole company, 6 lightning strike fighters, 6 marauders bombers, 3 more thunderbolt, 6 deathstrike, and all the infantry (rought riders, 2 tacticals, a mechanized company, an assault company, motocycle company, ogryns, ratlings...) well that's my next big project in the coming months :D



I think i'll make the second tacitcal, second heavy company and the mole company & hellebore blue too.
To represent the fact if the whole army is gathered there cadian & mordian forces (or any other 2 planets :D )

I'm not really "hot" about the G/W fluff. And after 10? years of active duty ('79-'90) as an Infantry Officer, I just can't embrace AFVs and troop uniforms in Circus colors. But that's me !  I'm not a fan of the Abnett stories because things like that.  I'm a rabid Hammer's Slammer Fan. I like their fluff. Even if they didn't camo their 170 Tonn MBTs ! :D  As a sidebar, I numbered all my IG Rgts after units I actually served in -  the 187th, 31st, 58th INF, 69th AR Rgts and 3rd & 197th Bdes ... :D  Sorry to go OT ... :)

I dunno, I kinda like it in its place.  I like to think of teh outlandish colour schemes as ones that would work well in teh regimets native world, then they get relocated and dont always have time to adapt the camoflage.  Also I think its nice to have the occasional archaic or ornamentally dressed style of army as the Imperium is a big and wierd place.  Like Infantry wearing red coats whith white sashes. So the blood doesnt show... getting this odd feeling... Feeling all Welsh...

5 rounds hin-dependent Fire!..  Thats jolly nice of him...  MEN OF HARLECH STAND YEA.... errr..
