I have been trying to think of a way to base my epic infantry cos the usual glue and sand seems like its going to make me cry with how fiddly it'd be on infantry  :)

I was also thinking of using the textured stone effect that vallejo makes but i don't know what kind of grade i'd need for epic as its difficult to tell from the pictures without something to compare it to.
Link to stone effect stuff

Has anyone tried this? Whats it like?

If possible i'd like suggestions of ways to base epic infantry e.g. "I do it like this . . . " then a pic of it?

This is the basic GW glue and sand, then wash and dry brush approach - though it has my own city ruins added before the basing.
I use a spatula rather than a brush to apply the glue, it's a very small (4mm wide, 0.3 mm thick) blade with squared corners, I get a little fed up of doing them though so tend to do small batches every now and then.
Also, I generally make and paint the bases before doing the actual infantry, this stops you getting over-zealous base-coloured infantry.

I use the Vallejo pumice and it's nice and easy to apply (it can be painted on), add a bit of static grass (cut short) and some standard flock and I think the effect is pretty decent. The 'stones' are smaller than the GW sand which I quite like. Here's a picture of an infantry stand (you can see that I didn't manage to paint the sand between their feet as well as I should but it's easy to do better than this):

JonLuke, those are some nice models. Got a link to any more pics?
I think i'll probably have to make do for the ones that i have now but i'll definately start basing before painting them. Seems easier.

Levinas, thats just the look i was thinking of. Any more texture than that and it would look a bit odd i think.
I am going to have to play around with various flocks til i can find something i like.

I want brown bases, but what colour flock would suit them best?
My painting log thing

I'm using a mix of three basing grasses. The GW static grass (glued then cut short), their green flock (darker than the grass) and some clump scatter stuff from woodland scenics (mainly on bases for tanks that one as it's a bit large next to the infantry). I've got more pics up somewhere on this site which might show the bases better and some more coming when the final six bases of stormtroopers are painted (just them, two warhounds and two valkyries to go!).

Here's a link to my very old thread (It's embarrassing to think that I'm still painting the same army!).

I also like (and use) the Vallejo pumice.

Thanks y'both

Heres what i've done using the vallejo stuff:

Could you repost the links please? They've broken since the move

Does the vallejo stuff mess up infantry that are already painted?
