Thanks "O", all my Epic Forces are in Tactical colors. We decided a long time ago not to flock our bases, for a number of reasons. I kind of like the basic black bases. And it makes them easier to see, for game purposes ... just our thing !

Thanks "W", Yes, as I said, all my vehicles, infantry, etc. are in Camo/Tactical colors ... Â I just finished some Traitor Thousand Sons from the Heresy in Tactical colors. And I'm now working on Heresy World Eaters. Â The SM1 painting guide has the T/Sons in Red ... mine are in Burnt Scienna - good camo for an iron oxide environment. Â The W/Eaters, again based on the SM1 painting guides, during the Heresy were dark green ... Â So I never paint anything in bright non-tactical colors. Â Except, my 'Nids ... of course !  |

I have only used Urban Camo on Space Wolf SM scouts so far but I like your ideas and the look of your Imperial Fists and may have to paint an SM Company with tactical colours too. Nice. Except, my 'Nids ... of course ! Please post so I can assimilate and study your style.  all knowledge will be consumed More excellent SM pictures too!

Thanks "Van" & Warhead ! Tactical colors are the way to go ! And with a little "common sense" (?!), you can come up with Tac Colors for any SM units. For example, in the Heresy, the Emperor's Children were purple ... Well mine will be a light desert tan, sometimes referred to as "desert pink" ... washed in brown then black. I look forward to seeing your Angels of Fire, Van !  And Warhead I'll repost post my 'NID pics, they can be found in the 6mm forum. "Resistance if Futile ..."

Great stuff as usual, L4! I've never been to keen on bright yellow marines anyway, but you've proved that the right yellow can look good. I do see one problem though... 'Sir, we can't target those Marines- they blend in with the desert!' 'Don't worry, Private - just point the tubes at those bright yellow 8x12 flags.' Now there's a real challenge - camo heraldry! THAnks Boyz ! The DAK/8th XXXX were both of my favorite units to model when I was doing historical. Â Â Â Â I painted the I/Fists with a base coat G/W Foundation Tau Sept Ochre, washed G/W Chestnut ink, then a black wash and final dry brush of Polly's Dark Panzer Yellow ... of course ! The flags are really for "ascetics", besides I like the SM1 flags and like making my own ! Â But as I said, I like the look on the board, it looks like an "old school" military operations map, showing the units' IDs, positions, etc. We did that sort of thing back in the '80s before computers became ubiquitous ! Â Â Â Â But as a side note when we were doing training in the Mohave Desert, back in the '80s. The enviromentalists were afraid all the GI's "bodily fluids" would damage the local eco-system. So everywhere a unit set up, a civilian truck full of "porta-potties" would place 8-12 behind our barely preceptible, "expertly" camo'd positions. Â So when we recon'd for OPFOR unit locations we just looked for the "porta-potties" ! They did paint them desert tan though ... but a bunch of tan phone booth looking things sticks out regardless ! |
