Hello Tactical Command! New member and recent re-convert to Epic. I've had a bit of a browse around and like this forum already - seems like you are doing a great job keeping the Epic flame burning. Inspired by the recent increase in high-quality Epic logs springing up on Warseer (I believe many are by members of this forum in fact!) I was inspired to get back into Epic myself. But it is Epic with a twist. I have caught the Pre-Heresy bug in a big way, and Pre-heresy modelling normally takes lots of time and a well stocked bits box - neither of which I have at present. So I had a great idea - Epic Pre-heresy! The marines are small enough so that they can be used as is (pointy helmets? Mk IV rather than Mk VI. Other helmets - Mk II or III rather than Mk VII) and many of the pre-heresy vehicle designs from the artwork are based on old Epic models, such as the Dreadnoughts and Land Raiders (the Epic 40K Land Raider was the inspiration for Forgeworld's pre-heresy version). Plus I had a bunch of old Rhinos and marines kicking around from a previous foray into Epic many years ago. So, a bit of ebaying, a bit of digging around for my old Epic stuff, and the purchase of an Epic Ork Warband box from GW (44 new-style bases for ?12, rather than 16 for ?7 if you buy the bases on their own, with the additional bonus that I get all the ork infantry to make an Epic ork army later) and I was ready to start on a new project. First off, I did a colour test to see if my planned scheme worked. I painted a couple of dreadnoughts, as I had plenty, and they are a perfect match for the pre-heresy style as seen in Collected Visions. I was pretty happy with how they came out, so next it was time for my first Tactical detatchment. Rhinos: Marines: And all together: The bases are still unfinished, and there are one or two spots I need to tidy up when I finish the bases off, but overall I'm pretty happy considering it is my first foray into painting Epic for over 10 years. So whats next? Well, I have a devastator detatchment in progress at the moment, which will include the dreadnoughts. I also have plans for a converted jetbike detatchment (to add to the pre-heresy feel) as well as a converted terminator detatchment if I can develop my greenstuff skills sufficiently... |

Cool! Pre-Heresy Thousand Sons were my first Epic army ever too. That must have been almost 15 years ago. |

Mate, Thats a great looking start for the Thousand Sons. It jogged my memory of a couple of things I saw on Ebay today that would suit your army. So see if you can get your hands on these: Old Marine Stuff And more Hope this helps and that you manage to win them if you choose to have a crack. Cant wait to see what you come up with next, oh and I have a heap of old Mk VI Beakies if you are after some. Cheers Aaron On the edit, I found these guys too: Beakies |

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Justiniel, rose4100, Otterman, Charad: Cheers! Warphead: Interesting, any pics? They had a differfent Legion symbol then IIRC, although the colourscheme was the same. Tas: Don't forget that the 1KSons were forced to the darkside, betrayed by the Emperor and their homeworld ravaged by the barbarian Russ... all for trying to warn the big E about Horus' betrayal! If only he had listened... CAL001: Thanks for the help. Actually, I'm trying to keep to the Collected Visions look as much as possible, which means those are a bit to retro even for me (and I already have plenty of marines to be getting on with). Basically, the Collected Visions matches the Epic:40K era stuff as regards vehicles. There are a few bits and pieces I'm still trying to get my hands on in fact. A land raider, two whirlwinds and 5 landspeeders to be exact, all E:40K era. Oh, and a couple of Librarians or current Chaos sprue Sorcerers (which have a great 1K Sons look). If anyone (in the UK for preference) has any which they are willing to part with, send me a pm and we'll see what we can work out. I have a bunch of old epic stuff I can part with if people are interested (quite a variety of Squat stuff, some Space Marine-era Chaos, Eldar and Imperial Guard as well) or some old 40K stuff if people prefer. I notice you have a trading forum on the boards, so its probably worth posting there as well... |
