There was a demand for a step by step tutorial on how I built my "battlewagon to flakwagon" conversion.

So here it comes.

1. Starting point

2. Cut off what you don't need (I keep the skull and spikes for my chaos warband, stay tuned for those conversions :-)

3. I started with the front bumper, a piece of sprue cut the the right size to extend in front of the wheels. A bar of plastic sheet and teeth cut out of plastic sheet, with small bolts fashioned out of the same plastic sheet.

4. The bed is simply a flat piece of plastic cut to shape. What I find to really emphesize the orkiness of the vehicle is if you chip the edges of the plates (look at the front plate of the wagon).

5. Add small strips of armour plating to the side of the flatbed. be sure to leave gaps and keep the sides uneven in both height and slant. I left a small hole in the armour for the smoke stack. I also used the same metod of chipping the sides of the individual plates.

6. Add supporting bands cross the armour on various places. A thin strip of plastic and 2 small pieces of plastic makes the effect really nice, for quite small work.

If you stop here you would have a much nicer battlewagon than what you started with. I will do another tutorial on how you can embellish this further to make a really nice battlewagon.
but next is the tutorial for the Flakgun to be mounted on the wagon.

Some one commented on my flakgun that he liked my oversized version. this is the 40k universe, if anything my flakgun is on the small side :-)

1. Drill out a plastic tube 3 holes from one side turn 90deg and drill out 2 more.

2. Make 3 more and pair them one with three holes upward and the other pair with the three holes to the side.

3. I might have jumped a few steps here :-). Cut out short lengths of the banner pole from the old square bases. and insert into the hole (fits perfectly if you use the same tube as me. a thin slice of tube a sights is mounted in the topside. A piece of sprue is glued on as a base. and bigger piece of tube is glued on to the end (I didn't spend much time on the bottom and backside, you will not se much of them in the en anyway). 4 small strips are glued on as entry points for the ammo feed.

4. Last step mount the cannon on the flatbed, trim down a normol orkboy and put him right behind. small strips of your thinnest plasticard as ammo. Voila finnished.

And tomorrow I'll show you the finished product painted in glorious Bad Moon colours ?

That is a nice tutorial.  Something to be kept for perhaps a future Epic supplement.

Damn it.  Why does this tutorial come out days after I place an order for a bunch of FW flak wagons?

Great oversized Ack Acks though.  They remind me of the AA gun from waterworld.
