I've just started playing epic and have a fair amount to use now and this is the first of my leman russes.

I was going to paint some infantry first but my friends have stolen all my spray. Hoping to make them look like these death korp i did ( though i'll be using standard steel legion rules )

I'm playing against marines and tau with maybe eldar later, is this an ok list?

Regimental HQ
Infantry Detachment
Armoured Company
Artillery Company
Stormtrooper Platoon w Valkries
2500 pts

Cheers! Here's the first of my infantry:

I know they aren't great but i am trying to do them quickish.

Played two games against marines ( i haven't used IG before, we did the tests using both as marines )
Lost both  :(

Was using:
Regiment HQ
1 Supreme Commander
12 Infantry Stands
7 Chimera's

Mech Infantry Detachment
1 Command Stand
12 Infantry Stands
7 Chimera's

Armoured Company
10 Leman Russes

Artillery Battery
3 Basilisks

Artillery Battery
3 Basilisks

Artillery Battery
3 Manticores

Sentinal Squadron
4 Sentinels

Sentinal Squadron
4 Sentinels

2500 pts

Could anyone suggest some basic tactics for using them or should i ask that in a different area?  :)

Use the artillery early in the first turn to hinder his mobility.

A highlight or two using dry brushing, followed by a black wash to soften the color difference and shade the mini really does wonders at 6mm.  It's fairly quick too.

Start the game with your infantry in base to base with APCs, not in them.  And try to get them out of the APCs after moves if you strategy allows it.  And again keep them in base to base with the APCs.  That -1 to hit helps them a lot.

Sentinels are good for getting cross-fire benefits, just keep them out of trouble as they'll break real quick.

Consider snipers if you're going up against Orks.  Taking out Nobz is a big help to you before they make it to CC.

I've wanted to do this but on page125 of the rule book, under Set-up Remaining Formations it says:
"Units being transported must start the game already loaded into the transport vehicle that will bring them into play"

We've always played that as stated (i.e. I.G. company have to be loaded on their Chimeras). How do others play it?

*sorry for going off topic...

onyx

it seems to me as though they start were thay want,

i belive it refers to drop ships  landers thunderhawks and so on.

as in the fsa every body started with them in base contact

The key Oynx is "bring them into play". Formations setup on the table are already in play so do not apply for this rule. Its talking about formations kept in reserve that must be transported in either a flyer or planetfalling vehicle.

Well, i took a little hiatus from my epic ( painted some orks and vampire counts badly ) but i'm back and a few other people will be having games which should be nice.

I finished off a second leman russ to make this:

Nearly done the third . . . ( update: third done  :)  )

Nice painting, lots of effort for an effective high lighting.
Damn you!

Cheers JonLuke
Another slight update. Managed to paint these three in two days ( which for me is lightning! )

I'm also looking to base my tanks but i'm not really sure what sizes, i reckon i'll need 3 different sizes: Chimera, Leman Russ and Superheavy.
How much should i leave around the edges? I have tried a few but with the leman russes, they look good from the side when the barrel is over the base, but from the front or on top it looks like a huge gap in front. Also, whats the best way to protect the tank with basing?

Here's the pics:
A) Chimera ( 2 epic base width )

B) Chimera ( Rough Rider base width )

C) Leman Russ ( 2 epic base width )

From side it looks good

From front it looks a bit odd

D) Leman Russ ( 2 epic base width, moved forward )

This one has the leman russ with the tracks to the edge of the base, but the gun hangs over the edge, would this be less protecting?

E) Superheavy chassis ( 2 Rough Rider base width )

Not sure this is really wide enough. The heavy bolters are nearly off the edge? Would it look weird wider?

My friend has been nice and said he'd make the bases with his choppa so getting things slightly larger / smaller shouldn't be a problem but i need to know the sizes to tell him . . .

TRC, Thanks for the nice comments! :)
Paint Boltgun Metal on all the metal bits
Paint VMC German Grey over the rest of the tank
Coat the entire tank in the new Badab Black black wash from GW
Drybrush the metal carefully Boltgun metal again
Paint a layer of VMC German Grey onto the chassis, leaving the wash in the recesses
Edge highlight with GW Adeptus Battlegrey.
Do details and thats it.

I used to use a lot of the VMC glazes and the GW are fairly similar, come in new colours and also you don't have to mix them which is always nice.

BlackHorizon, yeah i will mate. I bought some of the rough pumice vallejo stuff which i have to apply to them. Will then paint them in a similar way to how Levinas suggested in my other thread. Still need some suggestions on the base sizes if you could give me any inspiration?
