After some thinking and scrounging up a bunch of old miniatures, I finally settled on an army to accompany my trusty space marines. Yes, the ragtag horde of the lost and the damned. Also, buying those chaos sprues for mutants, cultist and demons also gives me enough chaos marines to start an army of those sometime in the future.

I have a fairly good heap of stuff already and good ideas on how to convert the rest, but I'm out of ideas on the chaos hounds. Lost and damned gives me an opportunity to switch gods when I feel like it, so I obviously don't want to cut up my flesh hounds, nor use anything that looks too related to any one god. I thought about using chaos hounds or dire wolves from the Warmaster range, but I'm afraid they might end up appearing unappropriately ginormous. Then again, this is chaos. Can anyone get any pics of either of those next to some epic miniatures? Or any other ideas on how to represent them?

A friend of mine tried using WM wolves in his space wolf epic army, and they looked hillariously big. Roughly the size of a small elephant.

Personally I think the WM models should be OK for Chaos Hounds. The old SM2 era Flesh Hounds were the size of a Rhino so the Warmaster ones should fit the bill nicely IMO.

sure sure, why shouldn't chaos hounds be HUGE ? its chaos after all ! there is a thread somewhere with good comparisons of the epic chaos mpdels with the warmaster deamons , they look big, but not silly big i.m.h.o..

I use them for chaos hounds and I don't find the size too large.

As something completely random... what do the WM rat swarms look like?  Could they represent packs of mutant chaos hounds or are they too clearly rats?

Those might make cool Nurgle "hounds"... a pack of plague rats!

Could you take a pic of those next to some infantry, please?

I was thinking about what to do for chaos hounds lately as well.  I was considering converting a bunch of the current plastic flesh hounds to use, but had thought about WM chaos hounds as well.

Since you posted, I dug out some of my WM chaos hounds for comparisson and I think I may end up using them instead of messing around with the plastic flesh hounds.  Size-wise they seem to match up just fine.

Left to right:
Chaos Marines, WM chaos hounds, current plastic flesh hounds, old style metal flesh hounds.

Mmm, those will do fine. Probably will get a pack of them and another of direwolves, then mix them up. Looks like they're a bit longish for the current bases, but I had this strange urge to go for something different, so I got this big bag of 22mm round plastic counters I'll mount my chaosy stuff on. Should fit two big mutant puppies just fine. Thanks for the pics. :)

I've bought some warmaster fleshounds, cut the base and they'll make great fleshounds :)
