Oddly in parallel with Moscovian's request for scratch-build help, but my request is for a tiny part. Note the attached image. How can I make a very small wedge shape? 1) File down an appropriate piece of plastic. This risks non-identical slopes. 2) Try to make out of putty or sculpey, then file. More risks of assymmetry. 3) ? |

You could try building it larger (perhaps an inch or two) and carve it from resin. Make sure the sides are flat and even (as you would need to do anyway). Measure the angles with a protractor (with a larger model any deviation in the slope should be more readily apparent), then cut off the top of the model. Alternatively to cutting it you could cast just the top of it. The angles of the wedge should be the same at the top as they are on the bottom. You could also try getting somebody to print off the shape on a 3-D printer, file it down (should be markedly easier than the other project), then cast it. |

Unless you wanr VERY specific sizes, you might get lucky with a bit of plastic sprue. More information needed: What is the height? What is the length? Are there any limitations on material type? |

The plastic sprues are definitely not symmetrical. The outside edge has a steeper incline than the inside edge. Sad that I know this, but this is what you find out when you play with all the leftovers. |

Here's the picture of the little spaceship that I want to build. I'll use Sketchup to show dimensions later, but the end result won't be very big - perhaps 15mm on the longest dimension. But in general, making wedge shapes seems useful for more than just spaceships. There's some wedge work I want for an Ordinatus project of mine as well. The 3D printer is too hard to get to these days, so it's out of the picture. The idea of making a taller wedge, and then slicing it seems interesting. |

I kept a bit which was left over from a Heller model of the Cutty Sark (being built by the wife ![]() Later (well, 20s later) - hmm, a few GW shield sprues I have a symmetrical too. TOo small though. Otherwise, I whink Mosc is right. ![]() |

How about: 1) Making a master 2D template out of eg. card, with your angles exactly measured. 2) Use template to trace out multiple wedge "monomers" from sheet plastic (thickest you can accurately cut). 3) Cut out monomers, glue them together to get to the desired length (eg. 15mm). Sand & File as neccessary. 4) Cast part as needed. |

Make one half i.e. /_| then cast it and stick the two together back to back /_|_\ Ensures even slopes, but might be tricky at that tiny scale. |
