Quote (primarch @ 01 2003 Dec.,00:59) | Hi!
There is a learning curve in any game, simple or not. I haven't seen a rulebook yet were some flipping through was not necessary, its hard to get any work that size to flow well reading-wise.
Looking forward to seeing your report CS!
Primarch | I agree, and the Gothic rules kept me flicking through a little. However, this is a serious problem in my mind. Take the reference cards, they dont tell you how to lose blast markers in detail. The rules for hills are not on them either.
It was not just that there was a bit of flicking through, but that the information was not all in one place. It just worries me. I dont mind so much, as I will keep going until I pretty much have it memorised, but I worry that it will put off new players. It seems a lot worse even than other GW rule books.

I had the same problem the other day (probably more so, as I was playing Orks and marines ). I had to flick to the rallying and assault sections often. I also used the reference sheets for speed, but there are mistakes in them. I was shooting my flakwagons with 2x AP5/AT5+ shots, when in the actual list they have 2x AP6/AT6+. There may have been other things too I didn't notice.
What was the worst thing, however, was the fact that with all the updates etc, my rules are becoming jumbled up as I forget which are new etc. I also have taken them out of order trying to keep the sheets I reference the most easily obtainable.
At least in a book it maybe easier. I'd probably use somekind of post-it note book mark system though, to quickly find pages.

Hi!
GW rules in general seem to suffer from poor organization, poorly explained rules or concepts that are poorly described.
Sounds like they might be a little weak in that department, since if you have difficulty with it as someone who already knows epic, then a newbie may have serious difficulties understanding the same concepts.

Tuesday 2nd December 2003 I thought that I should get back to this, and I have been enthused by the weekends game.
I preped and organised the Assault troops and Heavies. That is all of the infantry aside from the two commander stands, which I aim to convert a little to make them stand out. I did this while watching Resident Evil to see if it had got any better. (Nope, still awful!)
I also managed to assemble two Razorbacks. I had forgotten how large these things were compared to the Rhinos.
I hope to have the entire force assembled by next Monday*, but the metal tanks take me longer than they really should.

*cough* Back to the plot... (And Resident Evil is terrible, even Milla cant save it. I would have had a better time watching someone play the game for 90 minutes.)
OK, to date, I still have to assemble:
The turrets of the two Heavy Bolter Razorbacks, with appropriate conversion. Four Predators - two of each. Four Land Speeders. One Librarian Land Speeder. An Assault Chaplian stand. A Tactical Commander stand.
That doesnt look too bad. As for the Land Speeders, I managed to pick up a pack at 'inflated EBay proces' but I wonder how people base these. I know that this has come up before, but do people leave the existing flying stand on (and how on earth do you paint it so that it is incospicuous?), or re-base using a flying stand or wire?

Nowadays I'd most likely use wire and a square infantry stand.

Well with my original Speeders, jet bikes etc., I painted the flying stands sky blue or white as I saw in the old W/Ds. But more recently I painted them green to match our GEO-Hex terrain ...

Quote (netepic @ 05 2003 Dec.,16:02) | @Cybershadow, are you going to try the pipe cleaner trick on your assault marines to make it look like they are taking off? It always sounded cool to me. | Probably not, to be honest. I dont like the effect much and it seems a little too much for standard bases. I might add a little smoke to the Chaplians base, but it depends how frustrated I am with the whole thing by then!

Hi!
I tried to make the "flying assault marines" conversion once long ago. It ended with several mauled stands.
Needless t say I haven't tried it again.
