Great news for all Swedes out there. The local equivalent of Simple Green is Grönsåpa. As described here.

I have a new method for stripping plastic and it is VERY effective, quick, clean, non-hazardous and cheap!

1) Fill a plastic tub with nail polish remover: Acetone
2) completely submerge the miniature in the nail polish remover for 5-10minutes
3) remove and scrub immediately with an old hard bristle tooth brush in the sink
4) clean stripped mini in soap and water
5) let dry
6) if there is still paint re-submerge in the nail polish remover and start process again.
7) put a top on your tub and save the nail polish remover for other stripping projects.

I recently stripped an imperator like this and I had all the detail come up lovely!

Good luck!

:)

I'd disagree on non-hazardous. Acetone can lead to the ordinary effects of inhaling organic solvents such as dizziness, head aches etc. Be sure to use it in a well ventilated area. Also be aware that it will dissolve some plastics.

I strongly disagree with that as well! Nail polish remover is basically thinned Acetone and that will ruin plastic.

And you must have been very lucky to have plastic survive that.

Acetone eats most plastics, yes. But what about resin ? I have some white resin models, some of them I'd like to strip from their started paint-job. Would acetone do the job without eating the miniature ?

And in general , which strippers should be used with resin models ?

It's a green coloured detergent based on tall oil. Perhaps if you went looking in the supermarket? Tall oil is "Aceite de pino" in Spanish which is as close as I can get to Italian. :/

In France, we can find some glanzer. In Belgium, Glanzer is labelled under the name "Emsal" but it's the same bottle:

Maybe you could look after this green bottle in supermarket at floor detergents.

I don't know about France, but you can buy Simple Green in Spain... in bulk!

Thanks for all the advice on this thread - has been very useful.

Unfortunately, living in the UK, "Simple Green" appears to be unavailable. Therefore, i tried a few things with mixed results (may have had something to do with the citadel spray varnish i used to use ) Though i'd throw my t'pence into the ring for general info :

Brake Fluid ( Not sure on brand/type) : No luck at all. Think i must have the wrong type.

White Spirit: Seemed to break down the varnish ok, but not much luck on paint. After an hour or so started to damage any exposed plastic.

Flash all purpose cleaner ("with the power of Fabreze" smell if you're interested.) : Great results !

Needed about 6-12 hours to get to work, after which paint could be easily scrubbed off metal like a tacky/oily film. Plastic was a fair bit more tough, but got it in the end after repeated scrubs/soaks/scrubs. Not sure why this should be - does spray-primer chemically react with the plastic surface... ?

What i would say is that scrubbing only seemed to be useful soon after the mini left the solution. As it dried it became hard again, though the paint must have been affected because after the first soaking it could be softened just by soaking in water. Also, some colours much worse than others - reds and yellows were particularly tough (and i used to play Blood Angels :-( It also loosens super glue so multi-part models can be easily separated.

Good news is - can leave models in it for hours with no visible damage. ( A strange marbling pattern was left on plastic - which i think has been previously mentioned - but this had no depth or texture. )

Happy stripping ! :-)
