Why not do it with no side parts at all?

I like the glowing orb within a scythe effect - it screams necron.

It also plays on the optical illusion of the glowing orb -

- Since the orb is at one end, the floating chassis should tip or be loaded unevenly
- Since it doesn't and the spine that holds the orb has a centre of gravity above the centre of gravity of the chassis (or near enough) the brain concludes the Orb must weigh very little or even be floating.

I love the first design, the one with just the "hugging" sprues and the back piece removed entirely. It's less obviously a 40k destroyer in that version.

All look good to me ... but I favor #3 ...  :alien:

I think I'm going with madd0ct0r's idea on this. I can then quickly complete the item and move on. Also it was my original inspiration from the spiked Aeonic Orb in Raiders without the frame. I may take the head off in order to distance it from the original Destroyer Model a bit, as Zombo correctly said.

Edit: Thanks to all for your patient advice.  :D

I like option 1.

however what about option 2 with the bum come back plate raised a bit, s its apex is at about the same hight as the top of the orb?

How about skaven tails for tendrils? Would they be long enough? I've seen them used to good effect on a Nurgle BFG ship.

I think option 2 looks best. 3 looks like a bug with wings, 1 looks too much like the previous versions.

Try http://www.dragonforge.com/Paintin....ies.htm for pewter cables. The ones I bought were good quality.

Thanks guys, lots of choice and good advice on the Aeonic Orb. I picked it up again tonight and took some things off and put a few other things on and I think I have something more to MY liking at least. I decided I like the stand alone Globe construct look that originally attracted me to the idea. It's not much different and it isn't painted yet but I hope that if you don't like it you at least think it will fit ok in my Necron Army.

Also if that doesn't do anything for you I hope this will. The First of my Wraiths...

I think using the Tyranid weapon part as the backbone works quite well.

O'man, the pewter cables... are they for the Abattoir tendrils? They look nice for just electric cabling. Skaven tails are hard to come by unless I buy a pack or unit from eBay or... GW *Shudder* but still do-able if they are cheep enough.

Oops, forgot a pic for the Orb, sorry...
