Thanks guys.

Can we have some more detail on how you achieved the smoke effect on the drop pods as I am thinking of doing something similar with mine.
It is clumping (the green foam foliage you stick on tree armatures). I just dot superglue onto the flight stands and stick patches of it on to achieve the shape I want. The flame and smoke effect is just dry brushed red, orange and yellow in that order, with orage and yellow focusing on the uppermost clumps. A little grey is also drybrushed on at the end lower down where it is still black. It is actually the exact same method I use for making explosions, blast markers and smoke for vehicle wrecks. It's very versatile and quite durable.

I think the up-impression only applies to the leftmost drop pod, the effect of the flames hitting the ground and spreading on the other two really creates a landing-effect.
Yeah, I think you are bang on. In reflection the leftmost being highest was the one I wanted to do the 'splash down' effect least on but the clumping is too thick for that making it look exactly like you say. I may adjust that one in time. Or I may pretend an Ork has just pod-jacked it!

If you used foliage, have you hardened it somehow for durability?
The black primer does a pretty decent job of firming it up, but I also go over the clumping afterwards with a generous coat of watered down chaos black to get into all the little gaps and corners where any green is still showing. I do this quite generously as being foam it does soak up the paint quickly. This also helps add a lot more to its rigidity. It will never ben rock-solid, but it is more than durable enough for frequent handling. As I mentioned above I actually use this exact technique for making blast markers as well and they have lasted years.

Just how much old school epic models have you got hidden away Carl?
Enough, but not as many as you might think, it is just an old collection and I am a bit of a hoarder. Certainly not anywhere near as many as some on this forum ;-)

Will there be one more update before Christmas?
Yes, but not for Epic sorry. Not enough time between now and Monday to get the next units(s) painted as I have considerably less free time this week. There (hopefully) should be one more before the end of the year though. So within the next two weeks.
