I hope they resin-ise epic, but it's entirely feasible they won't and probably better we plan for the worst if we can and stock up now rather than later. Some of the new units that have been only available in EpicA will likely be the rarest / highest sellers on eBay in future if they go e.g. Void Spinners, Storm Serpents, Landing Craft, etc.

If they pull the range it won't just be that though, they'd pull all the online rulebooks and lists at the same time :( If you want any pdf for any game system on there I'd save a copy now.

is the shift to resin really going to affect SG that much? they're not moving the plastics over to resin after all, so the smallest and fiddliest SG stuff wouldn't need to change... if they can use the new resin with existing metal moulds, it wouldn't cost them anything to change SG over to the new material (in fact it could actually make it a better prospect as the resin is somewhat cheaper than the metal, meaning GW would make a slightly higher margin on SG items)

All of that said however, I'm still going to spend the next few months doing an 'end of lifetime purchase' for my Epic armies......

Just thought I would give an update on this if anyone is interested.
I did a biggish order at my local shop a week ago, thankfully it all came in, on the down side, the Revenant titans were badly cast, so he phone for replacements.....none, but they would have some in about 6-8 weeks...but he wouldn't say if they were metal.
Rumor is, resin....and considering the quality of some of Forgeworlds resin...i am very scared.

So it looks like the metal is running out.

Cheers for the heads up, What concerns me is will they alter the prices... if metals so expensive and GW is changing to resin they would bulk buy the resin and get discounts, Now as resin is cheaper than metal thats why GW has changed over, and quality on the 6mm side will be considerably affected are they going to alter the prices...... ::) or Knowing GW just put it up by another pound strange as it goes . ....£11.00 to £11.50 to £12.30 You just always less and less for the GW 6mm stuff as time goes on.

Not to bad if it was all new stuff, but personay people building a start up army go straight to ebay if they had introduced new lines they wouldnot have that problem, I personally think they will end the line very soon and not support EA

Regards epic

It looks like you were right to be concerned as though GW has switched to a cheaper material they are also using the opportunity to raise the prices a lot, while trumpeting the fact the medium allows more detail, yet for the moment using the same masters for nearly all the models re-done in resin, so this extra detail will mostly be theoretical for the moment.

Plus since the new resin models are likely to break easier they'll probably get more money from replacement of breakages. The prices for some models are going up by up to around 30% and Vampire Counts Blood Knights will now cost £61.50 for a unit of 5 Knights. It also looks like FW Krieg will become the budget alternative compared to the ex-metal ranges of IG like Tallarn, Vostoryan, etc.

Personally I don't give a toss about the 32mm stuff as I'll soon be selling off 99% of mine soon and never buying any more, but what happens to epic concerns me more and as yet I believe we've had any indication. Fingers crossed it'll just be a price increase and the range will be maintained.

I fired off an email to Jervis before the announcement of the resin switch, and he said he couldn't comment at that time (Due to NDA).

Now that the announcement has come, I've sent another email, I'll let everyone know if/when he gets back to me.

That's interesting. NDAs are normally between two companies, rather than between a company and and one of its employees. So who's the other party to the NDA, one that potentially covers Epic?

</mulder> ;-)

All GW design studio employees have to sign an NDA to say that they won't reveal what the company's future plans are without the proper authorisation.

So the other party is Games Workshop Ltd.

Wow, I just saw the plastic price hike list on Dakka. I hope Mantic screws GW with a dick so big that a whale can feel it.

Ben, you should also ask Jervis what he thinks about Maelstrom and Wayland games not being allowed to sell GW products outside of Europe anymore.

Between this and the resin price rise a LOT of Australian gamers are rightly outraged at GW.

This could possibly prove a real hindrance to new players playing Epic. They simply seem to hate GW right now. I have to say, as a GW game player on and off for over 20 years, I feel so disapointed by their actions. I get the whole thing about business must make profits but this has really created much anger and I don't believe their actions will help boost sales down here.

This is a real issue here. We pay twice as much as UK or American hobbyist for our GW products. That is a real 100% more not just a monetary conversion thing. Due to the strong Aussie dollar, GW are making a huge profit out of Aus/NZ sales compared to their costs here.

A very sad day for many GW patrons.

I empathise with your plight down under (An effective more than doubling in price), but I really doubt that Jervis would be able to comment on it to me in any kind of useful manner, and I won't be asking him about it.

Weirdly, I get the impression that they'll boost sales in Australia, at the expense of shrinking the overall market dramatically.

They'll have less customers, but those that remain will be paying so much more...

By banning Maelstrom (and others) selling into Aus GW will increase the margin they receive on every sale there. So they are banking on the drop in sales they make to Maelstrom will be covered by Aus players buying from suppliers in Aus or themselves.

To me either the accountant hasn't got his sums quite right, or things are truly desperate with the balance sheet and the board need to have some plan in place to show the investors they are doing something to fix it. Think their results are normal published in July...should be interesting to see what spin Mr Kirby puts on them this year.

Things are not particularly desperate on the balance sheet front, or at least, their last round of figures released was pretty healthy from a profit perspective, and whilst a dip in sales is quite possible (All that snow in normally heavy sales periods), sales taking a dive off a cliff seems unlikely.

And the move away from metal will also help on the costs side (once the capital investment in "truecast" is factored out). It's possible to become more profitable despite low or negative revenue growth if you can become more efficient.
