I love finished army shots. Congratulations on a job well done. Your colour scheme looks great and does a great job bringing coherency to your forces.

Hope to see your Chaos force develop, too.

Incidentally, I found the Dawn of War computer game really handy for trying out colour schemes before I started. It was also what gave me the idea of doing the panels on the sides of the Grav-tanks black rather than having them green like the rest of the hull: DoW did that automatically and I decided I liked the way it looked.

I love the DoW painter for testing schemes as well.  I go back to it frequently for different projects.

Altogether a great looking force and the color scheme works really well. :agree:

Yeah, I know, thread necromancy and all that, but it seemed tidier to add to the end of this thread than to start a new one.

I recently decided, as a short break from painting Imperial Titans, to paint up an Eldar Titan as well. This Phantom was the result:

It was interesting painting this and comparing the quality of the cast with that of the similarly-venerable Reaver. In terms of the sharpness of the details and the general 'crispness' of the model, this feels much more like a fairly old figure than the Reaver does. The Phantom is actually not bad considering it's been around for over 20 years, but the Reaver mostly doesn't seem that old at all. It's still in a remarkably good state.

While I was revisiting my Eldar, I also painted up a third Guardian warhost:

Having this formation done also means that I can use all eight of the painted Wraithguard stands I have, rather than just six, which brings this update neatly to 1000 points. This means that for the moment, the Eldar are back to being my largest painted army at 7125 points, although I expect the AMTL to have overtaken them by the end of December.

I won't re-do the whole-army shots, but here's a group shot of all the new additions:

Incidentally, back in September I re-took all the photos from the rest of this thread, as some of them were fairly terrible. They should now be quite a bit clearer.

Nice Phantom :agree:

You should take a little time to paint barrel holes on the ends of the Pulsars though.

Bother. You are absolutely right. I usually do that, but seem to have forgotten this time.

Edit: Now done. I'll see about getting an updated photo tomorrow.

Edit2: Photo now updated.

Thought I'd dig up this thread again as I've made some further improvements.

One thing I was never entirely happy with in this army was the lack of bases on the grav-vehicles. Eventually, I decided to do something about it. So, armed with 36 25mm round bases, a length of piano wire, some clippers and a pin vice, I set about creating the following:
Image

I now have a base for each painted grav-vehicle in my army. For ease of storage and transportation, I haven't glued them in place; each vehicle has a hole drilled in the bottom which is deep enough that it stays on the base well enough while in use.

I have now re-photographed all of the formations that feature grav-vehicles. Firstly, the aspect warrior troupes:

The Falcon-transported Ranger Warhost:

The Night Spinner troupe:

And the Swords of Vaul; the Fire Prisms:

And the Falcons:

Plus three Firestorms to add to the above:

I probably ought to re-do the whole-army shots at this stage, especially since page three of this thread has been mangled and so the old shots aren't accessible any more. But I'd prefer to wait until I've added some more stuff first, and I don't want to do that until I've finished the stuff I'm working on for my Chaos army. So it might be a little while yet.

Thanks, chaps.

Well, they have seen a couple of games, now. But I get to play so rarely these days that messing about recording them in detail just doesn't seem worth it. So I haven't so far.
