Thanks guys! still no primer at the LGS so another week to finish up converting the minorus. If all goes well I should have the gun carriages finished for the quake cannons this weekend and move on to the landing pad next week. E&C, can we get confirmation (again) that it'll be legal to use the CLP to grant indirect fire to the quake cannons on the other two minorus in the company? I'd hate to spend a lot of time scratch building something that I can't use!

Thanks! And after much riveting today, the first two minorus are complete and ready for painting (and the eagle on the cannon when it gets here!). This leaves the landing pad minorus and the little fighter that Xeones is helping me build for it. Hopefully I'll be able to finish up the construction of the pad this week. Of course those won't hit the painting stand until after I get a couple of epic warhounds done up.

Damn you for setting the bar so high!

To talk shop, mostly pertaining to the last photo:

How did you get such a clean and constant curve on the tubes/rods on the side of the carriage? And how did you get such a clean gothic arch?

Curves aren't my forte. Actually, that's not true. Curves mock me neverendingly, laughing sardonically at my inability to incorporate them into my models. I'd like it to stop, it's starting to interfere with my sleep.

Thanks! they will look more imperial once the eagles get here :)

Curved tubing can be done a couple of ways, but with the size I'm using (.35 and .2 mm diameter) I find that it's easiest to just hold it and use the tip of your thumb as a guide. You have to bend it slowly and if you go much past 90 degrees it'll break, but once it's crimped, just trim it to the space. More complex curves are done the same way and may required some rebending of previous curves as you go.

The gothic arch bit is a little deceptive. They didn't quite turn out perfectly curved and clean but the easiest means of doing it is to cut the tall rectangle shape, pick a point in the middle of the top and one the same distance down on each side. Then cut on the line formed by the two points. After that pick another point in the middle of the line you just made and second point a little further down the side of the window and cut along it. What that does is trim off the point and make a good start to the curve which can be finished by sanding off the points a bit. That might not be very clear, so if you need it I'll try to make a pic.

I finally have primer again so I'm back to work on the warhounds. I don't often do this, but at the request of Cal, I'm doing a few WIP shots of the painting progress on the warhounds. At this stage, the basic dark metals are finished and ready for final touchups after the rest of the model is painted. The next step is the blue carapace although I'll more likely finish up the yellow on the cockpit and the green window as well as the green for the plasma coils before serious headway is made on the blue.

They aren't anywhere near finished yet. The white areas are parts that still need paint.

Mate,

I was having a crappy day, now I have seen these, that day is gone. Great work mate and thanks for doing the WIP pics for me. I am so looking forward to seeing them on the battlefield.

Cheers
Aaron

personally I think they look awesome in white. The monochromatic look often comes out crap, but I think these work perfectly, particularly with the winter them bases. Very inspirational :)
