Thanks! Weathering is an odd beast. I've tried several different methods of it so it varies between using an old messed up brush and stippling on boltgun to using a chunk of sponge and dabbing on boltgun. I think the most controllable method I've tried so far is holding a small piece of sponge with forceps and lightly dabbing it where I want things to be weathered. The larger sponge is good for covering large areas fast but you have to be careful that you don't get too much paint on it or it coats more than creates nice weathering.

Thanks Vaaish
I have used a sponge once on my 1st Tau mante
well it was a tissue in fact :D
it turned out well
but the handling was hard for me
so I did not used it again
maybe I will give it a try next time

thanks again

Well, it's not much. I just use the square bases and cover them with greenstuff embedding the bases for the models in that and using a tool to make it look like dirt. After that I'll add bits like rocks and rubble and perhaps some smaller grade bits to add more texture. Bases are painted and last I glue on some woodland scenics fine foliage and some of their larger clump foliage. That's about it really.

Slight update on the obelisk front. I have the first five 99% done but I'm waiting on some bases from likto that I hope will arrive this week before I can get them completely finished :)

With yet another day going by and a sorry lack of delivered bases (I have tracking confirmation, just the USPS is being unreasonably slow this week shipping them from where ever they are coming from) I've had to postpone some of my plans for the weekend. With this being a build week I had planned on getting a 40k marine mini for a painting swap built, two of the FW Thunderhawk transports for Cal built and washed in prep for painting in the next week or so as well as finishing the prep work on the monoliths and three cron objectives. I'd really wanted to finish up the bases for the obelisks so that could be marked done, but with no bases showing up in the mail, that means I won't be assembling two of the cron objectives or the bases for the obelisks.

If all goes well the monoliths will be ready for painting after this evening. In the mean time, I'll just leave it with the Cron tomb Complex/ blitz objective I did get built this week :)

Yeah there are some, left over test casts for the obelisks, a bit of a cron gauss turret... that's it though. Hoping to have it finished by the end of the week.

I got the bases and finished them up last night. Today I had to do a few touch ups since the bases ended up being darker than I'd planned and I needed to break the models from them a bit more. I also primed two of the thunderhawk transports for painting next week or so.

The real reason for this post though is the pics of the obelisks all finished. I have enough done for one obelisk detachment and the remaining four are split between two Monolith detachments that are yet to be finished. (primed and ready to go, just not done yet.) That leave me 7 models to paint, two more objectives and the scratch build of the wraiths.

Great job on the obelisks!

You really captured the classic Necron look with your painting. ;)

Stop depressing me with your ridiculous talent, damn your eyes. :)

More seriously, do you have painting guides for this stuff or anything like that?

Those obelisks look great, same with the rest of your stuff.

I do quite like the marine conversion too.

Thanks! With any luck I'll have the blitz objective done by the end of the week too.

SK: I don't really have any painting guides for these guys. It's just however ends up getting the effect I want with them. I keep promising myself I'll try a version with better shading someday but there's just so many projects that the extra effort slips through the cracks.

Ohh pretty pretty!
I'm planing on starting a necron army and I've been thinking that I want them to be the dark green kind.
I hope, after seeing yours, that I can come at least close to your quality because they're great, truly inspiring!

cheers

Edit: BTW where do you order your bases and what diameter do you use?

Edit again ::): I meant what thickness are they?

I got 40mm diameter on the 1.5mm clear acrylic custom from litko because I didn't want to deal with potential issues over the long term with the plywood ones.
