Dark powers are at work here for sure...

Anyway I got the stuff from ChaosOrc today. Based a test stand of Tyranid Warriors to test my paint scheme on which is currently drying on my workbench. It turns out I misread the label on the Vallejo ink so instead of Smoke I've bought Sepia which is pretty much the color tone I was looking for anyway.
The result loks promising although I think bone areas need touching up a bit afterwards to make the miniatures look more interesting. Still it is a very simple paint scheme so I think it sould be easy enough to do an entire army this way. I'll have some pics ready tomorrow I think.

Also the FW order arrived. By some odd packing error I got 3 bases of Rippers (The big lump of critters) instead of the individual ones I ordered. At least the FW guys have been quick to replace the order but it is still mildly annoying.

Did you have to send your rippers back to them?

In the section marked 'tyranids' :;):

FW quality control is... not good.  IME.  They're good at replacing stuff from what I hear, but I think that's because they're used to it.

No. I've only been asked to do so once and that was after they screwed up my order 3 times in a row. In the end I decided to keep those miscast Stormswords and save myself the shipping cost because I was just getting tired of keeping complaining. -I'm pretty sure the sales guy was getting pretty tired of my whining as well... :D
In my experience FW (as well as GW) are very nice to replace mispacked or miscast stuff. However I thik it is only fair: At their prices I'm not going to put up with a faulty product.

Anyway: I've touched up the bone areas on the Warrior and the end result looks suspiciously like Mark Logues Nids. However that's not really a bad thing so I think I'll stick to this scheme. :D

Here's the nid stand (without proper basing though).

I think it looks a bit too brown in the cold light of day so I might have to dillute the ink slightly in the future.

It looks good, but remember that things look duller from a distance on the tabletop - colours effectively become much darker than if you are looking at them close up. At least you have the white there to bring it out though.

Is that a coin you have them based on? That could get expensive :D

I agree. I hope a thinner ink will help because there's not enough contrast between the fleshy bitz and the bone ATM. It is mainly the infantry I'm concerned about. The larger critters should be fine since there's more room for adding details.

As for the coin base: Hmmm... did you se the prices GW are charging for bases these days?    :confuse:  :p
